Classroom News - Year 3

Welcome Back

Welcome back to all our students who have settled very well into Term 3. We hope you have all had a marvelous break and we look forward to watching you grow, and witnessing you achieving great things this term. Term 3 will be a very busy and fun term.

We'd like to welcome Leonardo into Year 3. We are sure that he will have a fantastic time at St. Mary's. Students have been very welcoming, ensuring that he has settled well into school life at St. Mary's.

What are we learning?

English: This term's writing focus is Persuasive Text. Students have been looking at text structures in class and have been coming up with some great arguments to include in their writing. Our Big Write (every Wednesday) will focus on this type of text. Students will receive their talk homework prior to the day. This is a great opportunity for family members to discuss and share some ideas to assist students with their writing.

Mathematics: We are currently learning about Area. Students have been participating in many hands-on activities in class to help re-enforce this concept, and allow students to calculate the Area of an object using different methods.

R.E: In Religion we are working on " Eucharist: Jesus is with us." Currently, students are looking at Celebration; what it is, what is involved and what makes it so special? and then relating it back to Eucharist. As we work through the unit, we will explore Mass, and the processes involved.

Geography: We are completing the unit 'Places are Similar and Different.' So far students have been looking at Australia, and the special place it is. We have discussed some of the special places that Year 3 students have visited around Australia and we invite students to bring along some photos to school to share with their peers. Students have been working hard on their mapping skills. We look forward to seeing what they produce throughout this unit.
