Teaching and Learning in Remote Learning

As we approach halfway through Term 3, we acknowledge the excellent work our teachers continue to do in this Remote Learning space.  While not the ideal setting, our teachers and leaders are constantly supporting each other to provide engaging and meaningful work to our students.

Our professional learning continues this term by delving into our second Inquiry Cycle this year. The core focus for this cycle comes from our Strategic Plan: 'To achieve consistent learning growth for all students in each school year.' Our students are the fundamental reason we do what we do each day. The purpose of this cycle is to continue working collaboratively and reflect on the impact our teaching has on our students.

This cycle unpacks and further delves into our 'Principles of Lesson Design and Delivery.' (pictured below). Specifically, our teachers are split under one of the two Principles of focus: 'Adjust the lesson for the students involved' and 'Help students know their next steps' These principles have been created and continue to be developed with the support of our Educational Consultant Bronwyn Jones.

The Inquiry Cycle occurs weekly within our Professional Learning Communities (PLC). Teachers are grouped across different learning areas to discuss, share, reflect and adapt strategies related to their chosen Principle. This allows for meaningful collaboration across the school and the continued building of knowledge for our teachers.

The leaders were able to reflect on their position leading the PLC's through the support of Tim Howarth, the Acting Assistant Area Director from the Department of Education. The continued drive of our leaders and teachers to critically reflect on what they are doing and strive to do better for our students is clearly evident. From discussing ways to provide students feedback on their work to sharing ways they can adjust the work according to individual student needs. The level of professional conversations occurring both within and out of these spaces shows that our teachers truly put our students first.

While the Remote Learning setting continues to be challenging, our teachers are taking each and every opportunity to grow and develop individually and as a team.

We look forward in sharing with you the continued work our teachers and leaders do behind the scenes to ensure the best for each and every student at our College.
