Year 9 Careers
At the end of term two, Year 9 students had an exciting opportunity to be involved in the Morrisby: My Career Insights program. Students participated in a online questionnaire that would help students discover, develop and drive career planning. It had a focus on identifying student’s strengths and abilities, while exploring potential career options.
This term the Year 9 students have had the opportunity to discuss their results with a Morrisby trained Careers Consultant through an online consultation. This included going over the student’s interests, their individual work style, career suggestions and a pathway for these suggestions and getting the students to start thinking about their senior school pathways.
Along side this the Year 9 students have been completing activities in their Careers class to help support the information they received from the Career Insights Program. These activities have been focusing on and building their skills and knowledge with the Career Tools profile. Career Tools is an online platform that provides information for students on
- interests, skills and abilities
- career exploration which looks at jobs, career research and the future of work
- Preparing for work for example helping write a resume, cover letter and prepare for interviews
The Year 9 students will begin to explore VCE and VCAL avenues in their Career classes and also start preparing their own resume and cover letter. You and your child can further the discussions surrounding study options, senior school and getting a job by viewing the Edgars Creek Career website. This can be found on the Edgars Creek Secondary College website. Click on Students and under that tab click on Careers: https://sites.google.com/education.vic.gov.au/edgars-creek-subject-selection/careers
The students will be visiting and exploring this site over the rest of the year. There is a section for parents that can provide you information on having career conversations with your child, how to help your child plan for their future and useful links to provide you with more information.
