New Indigenous Artworks

Last Friday 18th November we again welcomed Uncle Steve Ulula Parker to Carnegie PS. Uncle Steve, a proud Boonwurrung elder, is the First Nations artist who designed and painted the new artworks in our playground this year. Grade 6 students had the opportunity to contribute to the large mural earlier this year by including their handprints, which signifies their mark on the school.

Other grades watched Uncle Steve and asked questions as he worked.

During our assembly last Friday afternoon, Uncle Steve explained the importance and significance of the images that are now represented in our playground, particularly as they relate so closely to the story of the Country on which Carnegie PS is situated.

We are so proud of those students who knew the names of some of the animals and images in Language and shared these with the whole school.

Thank you to the PFA for assisting with the funding of this project and to Mrs Langson for her passion for inclusivity and voice for our First Nations people.
