“Art is a place for children to learn to trust their ideas, themselves and to explore what is possible” ~ Maryann F. Kohl

One of our very special traditions here at Delacombe P.S, is annual graduation sketches for staff and students. Our Grades 5 and 6 students have embraced this task with enthusiasm and are busy creating the portraits in preparation for the end of year graduation.

Students from Grades Prep-4 have continued to enjoy exploring their creativity, and developing their ability to trust their own ideas in Art. With the overarching concept of, “from little things, big things grow”, students listened to Peter H. Reynold’s picture story book, “The Dot”, before creating their own artwork, with the simple origins of a dot. Students were provided with a large selection of resources and encouraged to pursue their own ideas. As you can see from the smiling faces, the process was enjoyed by all! Some reflective statements about their learning include:

  • “I felt proud and so calm” ~ Matt Grade 3
  • “It felt awesome to follow my idea and it looks so good!” ~ Sophie Grade 3
  • “I felt like an artist!” ~ Dash Grade 1
  • “I felt calm and relaxed because creating art makes me feel good inside” ~ Georgia Grade 1
  • “This was enjoyable, I loved it!” ~ Lucy Grade 2
  • “I liked being able to choose what resources I used” ~ Caidyn Grade 4

We are so proud of all our students here at Delacombe P.S and think we have the best job in the school!
