Professional Learning Community Foundation  (Preps)

What an exciting couple of weeks we have had! From an under the sea adventure for Writers’ Festival to a sporting sensation for our Athletics Day! Congratulations to all Prep students for having a red hot go with your writing and for participating with a smile through trying conditions on Athletics Day. We are so proud!

In Reading, we have continued to explore a book each week, with a different focus each day. We have enjoyed reading ‘The Big Book of the Blue’ and ‘The Snail and the Whale’ over the last two weeks. In Writing, we have been working hard on writing with some more independence as we tackle writing our own narrative. In Maths, we have been working on our addition strategies through the game of ‘Numero’.

Week 6 and 7 will be assessment weeks. The teachers are really looking forward to celebrating how much you have all learnt and grown.

We have our fingers crossed that the weather starts to improve soon. As we see more of the sun, please be reminded to apply sunscreen for your child in the morning and consider packing some for them to reapply prior to playtimes. Alongside this, if your child does not have a hat, please purchase one from the office. Students are also reminded to bring a labelled drink bottle with water everyday.

Our Pevan and Sarah Concert is fast approaching on the 2nd of December. If you haven’t already, please make payment for this via Compass. If you are having difficulties, please contact the office.

Swimming is approaching in Week 8. Information will be sent out later this week.

Thanks for your ongoing support,

Professional Learning Community 2 (Grade 2 )

Hi Year Two families,

It has been an extremely busy time within PLC2 over the past weeks. Well done to all who participated in the P-2 Sports Day. It was such an enjoyable day, shared by both students, families, and staff.

Students were extremely fortunate to have Ann attend DPS and model teaching a persuasive text. We compiled a persuasive narrative about how Animals enrich our lives and make them better. Congratulations to all students, Ann was amazed at students’ ideas, input and being able to link their writing to their lives.

In Reading, students have enjoyed making inferences, summarising their own texts and critiquing different aspects of books such as their illustrations, story line and purpose.

In Numeracy, each class has been busy fine tuning their Numero skills and playing in a range of matches to crown its class champions. The Championships will continue over the coming weeks where a new PLC2 champion will be crowned. Well done to all participants on their sportsperson ship and cooperation.

A huge congratulation to everyone who published an ‘Antarctic Antics’ description piece for the 2022 Writers Festival. It was fantastic to see our school transformed into an under-water world. Thank you for all families who attended and supported the day.

We wish Mr Toan all the best as he begins his leave in readiness to welcome his first child. You will be missed Mr Toan!

Professional Learning Community 3 (Grade 3)

Testing, testing, testing! Assessment time is always a fabulous time to stop and notice how much we have learnt this year. We love celebrating the success of our students and look forward to sharing their successes and goals at the end of the year through our formal reports.

In between testing, students will be working on their projects around plants and how they grow. Students have been given the option to choose how they present their learning as long as it shows the lifecycle of a plant, and what else can impact on its growth. It has been wonderful to see each student decide how best to present their information and to see the creativity and strengths each child has in this way. At the end we will have posters, slideshows, video diaries and models.

As the end of the school year draws nearer, we begin to plan for next year. We will start discussing next year’s classes and ask students to reflect on who they do and do not work best with, whether friends or not. This would be a great conversation to have at home to give time for students to actively think about this.

Lastly, CAMP. Camp is getting closer, so for those few who have not yet consented to our FREE overnight camp please do so on Compass ASAP.

Professional Learning Community 4 (Grade 4)

We've had a wonderful time in PLC 4 recently!

For Writing in weeks 4 and 5, we had the fantastic Ann come into our room and model writing for us. We learnt how to structure our paragraphs and use interesting idioms such as 'the elephant in the room' to really make our writing POP!

We also really enjoyed the Writer's Festival, we wrote about 'What Lies Beneath...' talking about all the spooky, creepy and weird creatures in the deep dark ocean. Don't forget to check out the hallways of Delacombe Primary to see everyone's amazing writing and art pieces too!

We've had a blast in Numeracy lately, we've been putting our mental strategies of the four operations into good practice with our class championships for Numero this week. We're all looking forward to the school championships in Week 6.

Congratulations to everyone from 4A, 4B and 4C.

We're going to be trying our best in Week 6 & 7 for our assessments, we finally get to show everyone how much we have learnt over the year. It's really important that you come to school so we can get some relevant data for our reports at the end of the term.

Don't forget to bring your hat with your name written on it to school, especially with the wonderful weather coming up!

Professional Learning Community 5 (Grade 5)

Assessment weeks are upon us, and Grade 5 students have been working extremely hard. This is the time when we are able to show how well all our hard work over this last year has paid off. It can be a gruelling time and no doubt our students will be quite tired from all the efforts they’re putting in.

It is also a time when our students start to reflect on the year we’ve had:

“I can’t believe that swimming was at the start of the year. It feels like it was just yesterday. This year has passed by in a flash” – Oska Dye

“Sovereign Hill was a fantastic experience. I’m so happy that I got to take part in the dressing up and see what it was really like for people in the olden days” – Jayde Gerlach

“I really enjoy assessment time because I like to see how I have progressed and what I need to work on” – Lexi Bourne

“As a new student to Delacombe this year, I feel like I have settled in really well because I have made some wonderful friends and the teachers here are pretty cool too” – MacKenzie Henderson

Delacombe really is a fabulous place to be!

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grade 6)

The chaos officially begins as we have stepped into the first week of Assessment week. This is a really important time for our Grade 6 students to demonstrate their learning and growth across the year one final time before heading to secondary school. This data is important for a successful transition to Year 7, so its wonderful to see our students working so hard and persisting with challenges.

This week is the final Passport to Success session ran by the Smith Family for our students. Over the last 6 weeks they have learned about many of the different aspects of going to secondary school and have been able to bust myths, learn how to read timetables, understand time management and plan for assignments. We thank The Smith Family facilitator, Mel, who has taken time out of her day each Thursday to run these sessions for our students. She sure does have the knowledge of all the different aspects of secondary school life!

Looming on the horizon is our beautiful Grade 6 Graduation. If your child was not in prep at DPS, we are seeking their prep photo for the graduation booklet that students receive on the night. Thankyou to the families that have sent through their photos already.

Lastly, thank the skies that the rain seems to have stopped! Everyone is in high spirits with the sun shining and we truly hope it stays around until the end of the year! Enjoy the rest of the week everyone!
