School Attendance

Attendance Matters

  • Regular attendance at school is fundamental to student learning. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve educational success and increase their career and life options.
  • Student attendance has been identified as an important aspect of a student’s wellbeing and failure to receive an education has been identified as a risk of harm factor.

If your child has to be absent from school, you must inform the school and provide a reason for your child’s absence. A small number of absences may be accepted by the principal.

  • Attend a special religious ceremony
  • Is required to attend to a serious and/or urgent family situation (e.g. a funeral)
  • Is too sick to go to school or has an infectious illness.

There are a number of options available to notify the school:

  • Enter an attendance note in Compass
  • Send an email to guyadmin@arm.catholic.edu.au
  • Call the school on 02 67791661

Arriving Late or Leaving School Early

A reminder, due to child safety reasons the front gates of the school are closed as close to 9.00am as office duties allow each morning. If your child arrives after these gates have been closed and need to enter school through the front office they must be accompanied and signed in by a parent/carer as they are then considered late as the rolls will have been marked.

Parents please note that students are not to be collected early from school unless they have an urgent appointment. School finishes at 3:10pm.

Library Days

Skills Questionnaire

Our students were lucky enough to have Jon Welsh and Riley Carroll coach our rugby league team that recently travelled to Inverell to compete. On the back of that, we have designed this form for the school to learn about the outstanding skills and talents of our Parent and Carers.  For the school to then possibly scaffold off these skills and encourage parent/carer engagement in the school. Please click on the link below & tell us more about you!

SPECIAL REPORT: A Guide To Safe Partying

Teenage gatherings provide young people with important opportunities to interact and build on their social skills and experiences. Celebrations, partying and socialising are a fundamental rite of passage and one of the most important aspects of a young person’s life. However, it is possible for the best young person to get carried away with their peers and the euphoria of the moment. For parents and caregivers, keeping your young person safe can at times feel daunting and is often a compromise and a challenge. Most teenagers try to do the right thing most of the time, but your leadership as a role model is crucial. Your child may appear to be physically large and mature, but this is not necessarily matched by their emotional maturity and responsibility in behaviour.Every party has the potential to get out-of-hand as sometimes it’s hard for young partygoers to make good decisions. Communication and regular discussions are vital, particularly because young people are often faced with peer pressure to do things they prefer not to engage in. Hosting a celebration at home or at a venue can be a fun and memorable event but it is important to agree on the ground rules well before your event is announced to ensure there are no misunderstandings later on.If hosting an event, you owe your guests a ‘duty-of-care’ and should ensure all reasonable steps are taken to keep partygoers safe. This Special Report provides caregivers with list of things to consider when planning a celebration. We hope you take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If this raises any concerns for you, a loved one or the wellbeing of your child, please seek medical or professional help. Here is the link to your special report https://stmarysguyra.catholic.schooltv.me/wellbeing_news/special-report-guide-safe-partying
