From the Director of Primary

Melanie Sluyters

Life can be beautiful if you make it beautiful.  It is up to you.”

Eddie Jaku

  • Beauty takes many forms
  • Beauty is found in many things
  • Beauty is inside and outside
  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

As Eddie Jaku says, “Life can be beautiful” and part of making it beautiful is to celebrate its forms, its nuances, its presence in the smallest of moments to the most grand of occasions.  The point is, we all need to celebrate each version and contribute to the continual creation of moments to ensure that life is not only beautiful, but acknowledged and enriched with some way of celebrating.  Be it a cheer… a wave of the flag… a pat on the back… a shower of streamers… a simple pump of the fist…, let's celebrate all we continue to achieve on our respective journeys - for ourselves and each other.

Primary Gatherings

Throughout the year the importance of community has not been lost on anyone within the Primary - we have a strong connection.  Part of that sense of community comes from the many and varied gatherings we have, be it assemblies, watching performances, just our morning lineup or our regular ‘coming together’ for prayer.

This week we were blessed with beautiful weather, so under the leadership of Year 6 White and Ms Meissner we gathered outside near “Jesus at the Well” to pray.  This opportunity to be as one within our community and celebrate through reflection, prayer and stillness was important.

As Ms Meissner said: "It was a time for the primary to be still and take an opportunity to acknowledge the future and uncertainties that come with it, but also have faith that we are being supported and loved in the future and the challenges we face".

What have the Primary Staff been up to?

Throughout the year a little snippet has been provided into what we as a staff do when the students have all gone home.  Last week we all headed out to John Wall Library at CET to sit with the librarian and hear about the latest resources on offer, as well as how we can embed current RE pedagogy into our teaching.  Best practice is essential to how we deliver curriculum throughout all key learning areas, and understanding the current trends and expectations of our Religious Education curriculum is no different.

Shared Lunch and Teddy Bears Picnic

As you would all be aware we tried to host our shared buddy lunch but the weather was not on our side and we postponed it.  Thursday 17 November is the new date where we will gather in our buddy classes and celebrate the importance of community.  All students are also encouraged to bring to school their teddy who will also be part of our gathering. Please note that Year 5 Navy will be on an excursion this day and will need to wear their full summer uniform.

Save The Date

The year is flying by as you would all be fully aware of and before we know it the Christmas cheer will be in full swing.  With calendars already filling with work and school functions it is important that you make a note of the below dates:

  • STEP UP DAY - Monday 28 November.  This day is a chance for our current students to meet our 2023 incoming students, meet their new teacher and see their new learning space.
  • THE NATIVITY - Tuesday 6 December 6:00pm - 7:30pm.  All Kinder - Year 3 students are required at this Liturgy and afterwards join with other families for a BBQ dinner and festivities. Further information via EdSmart will be released in the coming fortnight.
  • EXCURSIONS - There are a number of excursions and sporting events scheduled for many Primary classes throughout the rest of November and December.  If your son or daughter is attending one, these will be communicated via the normal channels.
