Sienna M. of Year 7 provides the following report on the DSC Spring Concert, accompanied with photos taken by Wendy Howes...
On Thursday the 6th of October, Doncaster Secondary College displayed the effort and talent of its music students through the Spring Concert. A striking amount of growth found its way on stage and students were able to display their hard work. School-time lessons, morning rehearsals, afternoon rehearsals and practicing in their own time really paid off and the audience was able to enjoy the beauty of their music.
Introduced by comperes students, Abbey M. (Year 9) and Kelly S. (Year 9), the students performed for the school community as soloist and groups. The musical groups which performed included Concert Band, Saxophone Ensemble, Stringworks, Guitar Ensemble, Junior Jazz, String Quartet, Wind Symphony, Senior Jazz, Soundworks and String Orchestra. Finishing off the concert, the ensembles combined to play The Music of James Bond (arr. Michael Brown) and blew their audience away with their stunning performances.
One of the many highlights of the night were the skilled soloist performances from senior students Michael M. and Ethan M., accompanied by Alison C., Mehrana B., Suki G. and Icy L.
Students would never have been able to experience this concert without the time and energy which the staff of the Music Department put in. A huge thank you to the Music Staff, Mr Peter Brodie, Mr Nick Dean (Music Director), Mrs Wendy Howes (Music Support), Mr Andy O’Connell, Mr Chris Ondaatje, Ms Hannah Walters, Mr David Rowlands, Mr Troy Sheers and Mr Joshua Verco for the dedication to their students and even performing with them. The concert and the livestream would also not be possible without the help and support from the Tech Team who assisted with allowing family and friends view the performance from their homes.
Finally, a last goodbye to the devoted Year 12 music students and the impactful performances they have put on throughout the years. They have demonstrated their commitment to their instruments and to the Music Department. They’ve left some pretty big shoes to fill in, but I know the amazing music students are up to it.
The following article from TJ Kosta, a guitarist in the rock program.
Here is a link to the pics from the rock showcase:
On Thursday 20th October, Doncaster Secondary College and Templestowe College bands came together to perform at the DSC Performance Centre, as well as a lunchtime performance on the Music Centre outdoor stage. During the day, each of the bands had their own rehearsing space to prepare for both performances, with the mentoring of Edmondo Ammendola (Bass player from Augie March) and help from Mr Dean (DSC Music Teacher) and Ryan Griffith (TC Music teacher).
Each band put on a stellar performance creating an amazing show for everyone to enjoy. “The event was a fantastic opportunity to gain experience and create connections with others. It was a super enjoyable day for everyone involved.”
All the money raised from selling the tickets to the show were donated to Support Act, which is a charity that supports Australian Artists.
A massive thanks goes out to everyone that made this day possible.
