JMSS Clubs

Film Club

FILM CLUB WILL RUN DURING LUNCHTIMES, NOT AFTER SCHOOL. We are doing this because most people don't have time after school.

We will:

  • Watch movies
  • Discuss movies
  • Make movies (yep!)
  • Learn filmmaking to become like the pros and give Steven Spielberg a run for his money ;)
  • Host several fun WHOLE SCHOOL EVENTS!

No film knowledge required! ANYONE is welcome to join - including teachers! Fill the form below and you'll be in:

Hopefully lunchtimes suit everyone better :)

Cheers,

Amber Dwivedi (DWI0001) & Himalaya Joshi (JOS0022)

Your Film Club Leaders :)

Cubing Club

Calling all cubers (Rubik's cube enthusiasts)!

Well, calling everyone, really. Cubing club is a lunch-time club, essentially a get-together for all cubers and non-cubers. If you want to meet up with other cuber buddies and hone your skills, that's one of the many things you can do! If you just want to pick up a cube and try it out, maybe get a new hobby, that's cool too! Just bring your own lunch and cube (or share with a fellow peer), but it always helps to bring your own:) The first session will be lunchtime in the Doherty area on the first Wednesday back from term holidays (21st April, 2021) and following sessions will be held on a weekly basis.

Everyone's welcome to join!

Chess Club

Chess Club will be on every Thursday and Friday at lunchtime in 2B1/2.

You are welcome to join us for a friendly match, to challenge other players, or even to play some cards with your friends.

If you would like to join the chess club or play in tournaments, please fill out the form emailed to you all.

Please make sure you:

  • Eat your lunch on the Ground Floor before coming up to chess club
  • Clean your hands before and after you handle chess equipment
  • Leave 2B1/2 clean and tidy
  • Finish up your games and start packing up by 2:10 pm

There will be a few more exciting features added to the club this year, about which I will be sending out an email about soon, so keep an eye out for that.

Hope to see you there!

Cubesat

In 2019, two of our JMSS class of 2020 students, Gavin Li and Daniel Hong, alongside with one other friend of theirs co-founded the non-profit organization The Australasian Youth Cubesat Initiative (AYCI), under the aim of providing opportunities in the fields of aerospace and mechanical engineering for young people irrespective of their background.

Over the past 2 years, their team have grown exponentially, from initially 3 students into a team of more than 20 students spanning 7 countries across the world. Throughout the process, JMSS played an important role in making this possible, from the support, encouragement and advice provided by our staff members, to the co-curricular program ran by AYCI at JMSS every week. As the first term of the co-curricular program draws to a conclusion, the team is looking forward to what is about to come next in the future.

Running Club

Whether you've never run before and are keen for some energising walks around the lake or you're wanting to take your fitness to a whole new level, come down and join us on Wednesday mornings for some walk/jogs/sprints depending on what you want to do most.

When:

Wednesday Morning - Meet @ 7:20am for a 7:30am start

Where:

Monash Sports Outdoor Fitness Station

What to Wear:

Your PE Sports Uniform

** REMINDER: Unfortunately for Yr 12's - you will have to change back into your School Uniform but it might be nice to change out of sweaty clothes!

As co-curricular is continuing to run this week, those lucky Yr 10's and 11's can wear their PE uniform all day and don't have to change - although I think everyone would appreciate some deodorant afterwards!

Hope to see many of you there on Wednesday morning bright and early!!

Don't forget to rest up the night before and set those alarms!
