Dolphin Research Institute Boat Trip

Report by Dom, Lucy and Elizabeth

On Monday the 15th of March we went on a boat to see some seals and Dolphins. The first stop we made was Pope’s eye, which is a small man made island. It has lots of fish and seaweed and a few other small creatures. The water was pretty cold when we first got in but we got used to it. The next stop we made was Chinaman's Hat, an octagonal structure serving as a haul-out for local brown fur seals. We got to swim with them and then we got to see some big stingrays that were near Chinaman’s Hat, which was pretty cool. The last thing we did was get to go see some dolphins. We didn’t get to swim with the dolphins though because the dolphins had young children.

Grade 5/6's having a blast in Food Tech!

Report by Hannah, Louie, Eric and Leilani

In Food Tech year 5/6s have been making amazing, yummy food! We have made rice paper rolls and in the rice paper rolls we had carrot, cucumber, lettuce and capsicum. The smoothies we made in our first week of food Tech were amazing. We made smoothies with the help of our amazing Food Tech teacher, Mrs. Allen. In the smoothies we cut up some fruits and vegetables then we put them in a Nutri Bullet with ice, milk or water. We have also learnt some great kitchen skills like cutting things, washing dishes. We are very sad that the Term is almost over but we are excited about returning to Food Tech in Term Two.

Click Against Hate

Report by Mia And Alannah

On Tuesday The 15th of March a kind lady named Pam came to the year 5/6 classroom to teach us about Click Against Hate. Click Against Hate is a program about racism, Bullying, Cyberbullying, Scammers and Cyber Safety. After that we made posters. What we learnt from this is that our words are very powerful and they can really affect people and that just because other people have different coloured skin we should not treat them any different than we treat ourselves!

Paddle Boarding

Report by Riley, James and Xavier K.

We highly recommend paddle boarding because it is so much fun. On the 5th of March the Year 5 and 6 Outdoor Education group went to McCrae beach and learnt how to

paddle board. It was the best experience. The Lifeguards at McCrae beach were our instructors. Once we were in our life jackets we boarded the paddle board train. The water was so cold. When we began we were asked to stay on our knees in case we fell in, it would have been a long drop otherwise into shallow water. When the water got deeper we were able to stand up, it was so tricky. We found it really hard to balance, “I(Riley) fell off my board two times’. (Xavier) I fell off so many times I can’t keep count. It was a fun experience and we would definitely do it again. Next time we want to be able to stand up longer and go further on our own.
