Lighthouse Project

 Reading Initiative

This week, four of our Year 7 English classes welcomed The Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project to kickstart a reading initiative aimed at promoting a love of reading whilst also boosting school connectedness and strong partnerships with community members. This project works within our GSSC Instructional Model and provides teachers with increased opportunities to individually conference and set goals with students whilst Lighthouse Mentors connect with groups of students through reading and discussing student selected texts.

The mentors come from a variety of backgrounds: some are retired teachers, some from different businesses around Shepparton and some purely have a passion for reading. All mentors are volunteers who want to engage with our youths to make a difference!

Students positively engaged with the project and enjoyed getting to know our mentors. We look forward to watching our students progress as readers and to see this program grow and reach more of our classrooms. If you are interested in being part of this project, please contact Kathy Fuller from The Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project: kfuller@gslp.com.au
