Student Investiture Ceremony

Invited parents and carers attended the investiture on Tuesday and many families and students watched this very special annual event online.

We were delighted that Yianna and Lachlan, BPS School Captains in 2015, accepted our invitation to attend. The attendance of past school captains is a long held tradition at BPS.

As past students they related fond memories of their time at our school and encouraged all students to enjoy the moment, make the most of opportunities that present themselves, never give up and always strive to be the best they can be. Next week we will include their speeches in Stop Press.

Our School Captains for 2021, Annabel and Sam, hosted the second half of the ceremony. They presented their perspective on their role and the year ahead. They are excited by the opportunity to contribute to everyday life at this wonderful school. They also thanked the past captains for their attendance and presented them with a book voucher from Beaumaris Books. Sam and Annabel have kindly agreed to include their speeches in this week's Stop Press.

The Year 5 and 6 students inducted on Tuesday are to be commended for having the  confidence to take on roles that will challenge them and require them to show self-responsibility, initiative, teamwork, respect for others and a willingness to fulfil whole school responsibilities.

As the year unfolds all Year 6 students will feel the respect and recognition of their peers. Our Year 6 students have reached the highest level in their primary years and they will quickly become aware, if not already aware,  that they are looked up to and held in high regard. Year 6 are role models to other students. They are our school ambassadors for 2021 both within the school environment and as representatives of our school when out in the broader community.

Throughout the year we are confident that they will demonstrate through their actions and words, the values of their family, the values of the school and their emerging personal values and beliefs. Their example will contribute towards and strengthen the strong culture of character that exists within our school. We are very proud of them.

2021 School Captain Speeches

Sam

Good Morning teachers, students, and parents. And a special welcome to Yianna and Lachie, our former school captains from when we were in prep. My name is Sam Valoppi and I have been lucky enough to be chosen as a school captain for this year. I have always looked to the school captains as something to aspire to and am really grateful to be given this responsibility in 2021.

I can remember on my first day of Prep, my teacher, Mrs. Redlich taught me the saying ‘Have a go you never know’ and I have tried to stick to this motto since, because you don’t always need to be the best, you only need to try your best. As School Captain, my top priority is to encourage students to give everything a go and to seize as many opportunities as possible. You’ll get lots of chances this year to try new things like school camps, excursions and interschool activities.

One reason I hoped to be School Captain was that I wanted to make sure the school continues to be a positive and fun place to be.  I promise to try to be responsible, enthusiastic and represent the school values on a daily basis. I have had so many great memories and opportunities at this school and now we have a whole school year to create many more. I cannot wait to work with Annabel, Harvey and Elle throughout the year and make sure Beauie Primary is a happy and enjoyable place for everyone, so if you have any ideas or problems, you’re always welcome to come and talk to one of us.

I am so proud to be at this school and I cannot thank my teachers enough for guiding me since Prep. I feel extremely privileged to stand here before you this morning as one of the 2021 school captains. Thank you for your time.

Annabel

Good Morning Ms Skewes, Mrs Wilson, teachers, parents, students and special guests. My name is Annabel and I’m your 2021 school captain.

Ever since I was in prep, I have always looked up to the school captains as role models. It has always been a dream of mine to be a school captain myself, mostly because I want to give back to the school that has given me so much.

I have had so much fun over the past 6 years, and I would like to make sure that every student whether in prep, year 6 or anything in between has a glorious experience here at Beaumaris Primary School, that will stick with them forever.

Last year, I was an upstander, which means I learnt how not to be a bystander but instead help people when they feel bullied.

I would like to make the school a more safe, fun and comfortable environment so everyone at Beaumaris Primary shares a similar experience as I have had so far.

Congratulations to everybody who received a badge today but remember you don’t need a badge to be a leader.

Please give a warm welcome to Lachie and Yianna who are visiting today to share their experience of when they were captains.

Parent teacher meetings via phone

As mentioned in our first newsletter, incidental parent teacher meetings initiated by parents or teachers, as required, will continue via phone calls.

Every year at this time  we encourage parents/carers to advise their child's teacher of any matters that may influence their child's learning and wellbeing or pastoral care. If there is a matter you wish to discuss with the teacher, please email or call the office to let us know times you are available by phone after school in the  week beginning March 1st. The week has been put aside for phone calls between teachers and parents after school.

Quote of the Week: Role models

“Being a role model is equal parts being who you actually are and what people hope you will be.” Meryl Streep

Gratitude and Mindfulness

What are three things that went well for you today?

What are the best things that happened to you today?

Who are you most grateful for and why?

What are you looking forward to most about tomorrow?
