Rules and Routines

Town Leave

We would like to confirm the rules for boarders going into town.

  • Year Seven students need to stay within the Plaza area, which is out to McDonalds, Target and the Dome only. They need to be in a group of three students in Year Seven and may only go once a week.
  • Year Eight students are allowed in a group of two and can go down York Street, also once a week.
  • From Year Nine onwards we are trusting them to go alone. We can be flexible with this, as sometimes they need to go to Officeworks or Spotlight to get equipment and then walk to Plaza for collection.
  • In the Middle Houses, we only let Years Seven and Eight boarders book to go to town for two hours on a Saturday and three hours for a Year Nine student.
  • The Senior students may go into town on their own and have more flexibility staying in town for shopping and lunch with friends etc.

Student Safety

Please remember, it is compulsory for students to wear helmets for bikes, scooters and in the cricket nets. No electric scooters or bikes are allowed.

Students are NOT to leave the school grounds without a staff member or host. Consequently, students are NOT to walk to the Lower King shops, the fish traps or harbour without a staff member.  Senior students, involved in specific sports or running training, may discuss their route with the Head of House.

Visual Media Ratings

Middle School house students must have permission to watch M Rated movies. If you haven’t yet filled in the permission document, please find it here. This allows us to effectively monitor appropriate viewing.

Aerosols

We cannot allow aerosol deodorant to be used in the houses, this is because they set off the fire alarm sensors and the Fire Brigade must attend every time our alarms sound. This week the clever senior boarders have come up with a solution. If they choose to, they can put their deodorant in the staff office and collect the aerosol when they need it and use it outside. They really like their spray deodorants!

Tools

We cannot allow students to have tools in their bedrooms, in the past some have used these to undo the screws on their security screens. We are happy to store these in the office for your child, they can then let the Supervisor know when they require them and return them afterwards. We can also not allow bullets, knives and other dangerous items in rooms.

Students Visiting Other Houses

Students from other houses may not enter the wings, same sex sibling are allowed, however, not other boarders. This is to maintain their privacy and security.

Room Search Policy

We have listened to feedback from students and parents and updated the Student Room Search Policy.  A student must now be present when a room search is carried out.  Two staff members must also be present as per the previous policy.  If there is a specific suspicion of drugs or alcohol, a search may be carried out by the HOBH and another staff member without the student being present. As a matter of respect, the student’s room needs to be left in the same manner it was found.

IT Hand-In Times

The Boarding IT hand-in times have not changed from last year.  Please find a copy of the times here, this will help you know when is a good time to contact your child.
