OLNA

I would like to wish students all the best for the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessments (OLNA) that commence next week.

Students will do the Writing component first. For Year 11 students who have not yet achieved this component, this will be on Tuesday 2nd March. For Year 10 and Year 12 students this will be on Wednesday 3rd March. Students are encouraged to try their best and try not to be too anxious about it.

Students can maximise their achievement in writing by planning what they are going to say before they start to write and carefully proof reading and editing their work before they submit it. They need to remember that there is no spell check or auto correct available during the OLNA test, so this is even more important than usual.

VET Primary Industries

This week all Year 11 General students have been introduced to the requirements and benefits of undertaking the VET Primary Industry course. It combines the student’s Certificate II in Agriculture and the hours of work experience that they complete whilst working on the College farm.

Students also need to complete two Skills Journals throughout the course of the year. The purpose of the journal is to get students to reflect on the 10 major employability skills that they are developing whilst working on the College farm.

Completing the VET Primary Industry Course will give student four C grades towards their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). Completing the Skills Journals also assists students when they apply for jobs, as they have had practice at reflecting on their work, describing tasks they have done and showing how they have demonstrated a particular employability skill.

Students have been encouraged to complete at least one of the employability skills a week during their own time, with the first Skills Journal being due in the middle of Term Two.
