Dear Parents/Carers, Families and College Community

Thankyou to those parents who put forward their nomination for the Year 10 parent representative on the College Board. Nominations close today at 3pm and I will compile the names and their biographies into a ballot early next week.

Students and staff have settled into the term and new year extremely well with only minor settling in issues. A degree of homesickness is normal and expected, particularly with our new students. The best advice for someone homesick is to encourage them to get involved with activities to keep them busy. As indicated in last week’s Wrap-up, there are a number of after hours' activities and with training starting for the WACoA sports carnival there should be plenty of options.

Wagin Woolorama

Next Saturday we will be taking a group of students to the Wagin Woolorama to compete in a variety of events. The Woolorama is a great agricultural show and an opportunity for our students to get a taste of the Wheatbelt which is such an important part of our agricultural economy. Students have been invited to nominate for the competitions and we will also take as many additional spectators as can fit in the coach.

Horticulture Review

This week I spent some time at the Horticulture section talking to Mr Olde about plans to review our horticultural opportunities for students. Horticulture is a major point of difference for Harvey and the industry offers significant career opportunities. We need to make sure that students understand that the industry is highly technical and mechanised and as such our own horticultural enterprises need to reflect those same attributes. Part of our focus in this review will also be on water use efficiency.

Have a great long weekend.
