Self-Assessments
From Media Captains Giselle & Calum
Hi, we are Giselle and Calum, the Grade 6 Media Captains. Throughout this week, our grade 6 classes have been working on our Self-Assessments for Semester 1. We have been focusing on the PYP Learner Profile attribute of being reflective. Our completed self-assessments will be included with our school reports and viewed by our families, the school principal and our prospective secondary schools.
Here are some examples of student reflections:
I always set high standards for myself and I’ve been looking forward to the Leadership Process for years, so I certainly wanted to do well. I set two main goals. At a minimum, I wanted to make it to the speech stage (as I’m a confident social speaker) or go all the way through to become a captain. - Erin 6B
This past semester, I have had many challenges including many lavishing tasks but isolation - the pandemic - had to be the most restricting. The impact of not having a teacher’s guidance when you are confused was a difficult side-effect of home-learning. Though this did make learning harder it was not impossible. - Xana 6B
Home learning was quite difficult but a great experience…I found home learning helpful because I had more time to practice and learn different things. Now I have much better time management skills. Overall home learning was a really great experience but I would not like to do it again as I would prefer to stay at school because it is much easier to learn at school. - Sophie 6C
In the final few weeks of home learning I noticed how confident I was being when asking for help from my classmates or my teacher on google classroom and google meets. - Chloe 6C
During semester two I really enjoyed and I really enjoy still doing/learning about simple compound and complex sentences. I think that they really help me with my writing. It adds a lot more detail to my work so it can be interesting and I really like learning about it. - Daisy 6C
For the first week of home learning, a task for grade 6 was to create a functional and minimalistic home learning space.
The piece of work I am really happy with is the leaders and government work. I thought it was fun because there was so much to look at. I mean, I like all of the things that I do and I am excited to see what comes next. - Matthew 6D
During the 100 year timeline of my family, I learnt so much about my family that I didn't know and I never got to meet most of the people in the timeline so it was good to learn about them and their history. - Luke 6D
During the leadership process I developed some skills that I never had before. The first skill I developed was that I learnt to write a very persuasive letter to persuade the grade six teachers that I would make a great leader. - Jenny 6D
During this home learning experience, I got to experience home schooling. In home schooling it was hard to do things without a teacher or friends but that was only part of the challenge, for we also had to balance school. There were up and downs, temptations, things to do, places to be, but overall I’m glad I got to experience this journey. - Ava 6A
This was a big change to my routine, but a nice change to have. I enjoyed being with my family. - Jackson 6A
My achievements this semester are fuelled by the fact that teachers can only teach you so much until you teach yourself things that interest you. That’s the type of learning that gets you to the places you want to go. - Axel 6B
