Parish Bulletin

St Mary’s Parish Prayer

God our Father, as we thank you for the blessings, we ask you to bless this Parish of yours, so that

we may love you more.

Encircle our families with your loving care.

Help parents to be good examples to their

children and our youth to grow in strength as good Christians.

To the sick grant health, to the aged bring serenity and to those in sorrow, joy.

May we grow stronger in faith and may

our love for one another become deeper

in our daily living.

We make this through the intercession of our Mother Mary.  Amen

Updated - On the Lighter Side

A frugal parishioner walked into the house panting and almost exhausted. “What happened, honey?” inquired his wife. He replied: “After the parish finance meeting on saving resources I decided to run home behind the bus and save the $2.50 fare.” “That wasn’t very bright,” replied his flustered wife. “Why didn’t you run behind a taxi and save $15?”

Updated - Pope Francis Pentecost Homily

In the age of the computer, distances are increasing: the more we use the social media, the less social we are becoming. We need the Spirit of unity to regenerate us as Church, as God’s People and as a human family.

9 June 2019

New - Feast: Mary, Mother of the Church

Is celebrated as a Memorial on the day after Pentecost. The Pope wishes to promote this devotion to “encourage the growth of the maternal sense of the Church in the pastors, religious and faithful.”

Updated - Looking at the Readings

Pentecost celebrates the fullness of the Spirit and the great gathering of nations. It brings the Easter season to its conclusion. The Risen Lord has been exalted to his rightful place next to God and he has sent his Spirit to fill the earth with God’s power. The world is charged with divine energy; it needs but a spark to ignite it with life and with excitement. This vitality explodes into the extraordinary. Tongues are loosed and speech overflows its linguistic constraints; charismatic gifts flood the valleys of human habitation; barred doors are burst open and frightened hearts are calmed. The Spirit of the Lord fills the whole world.

Once again we gather together for one reason, only to discover that God has gathered us for another. Through the Spirit of God, we are reconciled to each other and then together we spend ourselves for the common good. Through the Spirit of God the world is renewed, the community is revitalised, and we come to know the mysterious yet all pervasive peace of Christ.

 New - Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost is the day when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the start of the Church’s mission to the world – a mission to bring people to God.

Holy Spirit, thank you for the gift of wonder.

On a cold morning, as the sun breaks through,

The world feels fresh and new.

But we know it isn’t.

We know you have been at work for countless ages, asking the human family to spread our branches to welcome your light.

May we find beauty in ourselves this day and

in all the people we meet.

AMEN

New - “Holy Spirit, renew your wonders”

At confirmation, we are reminded of the gifts the Spirit brings to help us in our Christian living :-

Religious sensitivity, Understanding

             Wise judgement                          Knowledge

             Resilient faith (fortitude)          Wisdom

Wondrous awe at the presence of God in our lives.

The early Church needed all these gifts to survive the           turbulent times of their age, just as we need these gifts in our times.  Today, we could pray once again the prayer of         John XX111

“Oh Holy Spirit, renew your wonders in this our day, as by a new Pentecost.”

New - National Reconciliation Week

 https://www.reconciliation.org.au/national-reconciliation-week/
