Assistant Principal Report

I would like to say a huge welcome back to all our Foundation to Year 2 students. It was so lovely to see how eager all the students were to get back into their classroom and see their teacher and peers. During yard duty today, I surveyed students on what they were most looking forward to about returning to school.  It was unanimous; to see their teacher and friends.

Connection to school and peers is so important and this time away from the classroom has certainly highlighted this. Positive relationships in schools are central to the well-being of both students and teachers and underpin an effective learning environment. Teachers will be spending time re focusing students on how they can use our values to be a good friend and member of the school community and will continue to deliver lessons planned as part of the 'Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationship' initiative, where we equip students with the skills to develop strong relationships.

Kindness plays a huge roll in developing lasting friendships and I saw this demonstrated many times today at lunch whether that be by supporting a friend to find a teacher for a band-aid, helping sort out a disagreement or being honest when discussing the problem, inviting others to play or just saying hi and flashing a smile. Kindness can be shown in many different situations and when highlighted and acknowledged, it not only makes the person being kind feel great, but also be a great teaching opportunity for others around.

Year 3 - 6 students, we haven't forgotten about you and can't wait to see you soon. It is not the same without you!

Kindness Campaign

To further highlight kindness in our local area, Maroondah City Council is proud to be delivering a ‘Be Kind’ campaign.

I’m sure over the past few months there have been many wonderful moments of kindness whether that be in virtual classrooms, in the community or within your homes - we would love to hear about them!

We’d encourage students and parents to take a moment to submit stories of kindness. You can do so at the link below.
