Shearing Education Program

Last Friday, June 12, the College held a Shearing Education Program for our new up and coming shearers and roustabouts. The students involved were Lachlan McGufficke (Year 11), Tom Sheldrick (Year 10), Tom Andersen (Year 9) and Jack Kingwill (Year 9).

Chris Iffland, a shearer and grazier from Eurimbla NSW, kindly donated his time and expertise for yet another year to educate the students on shearing theory and technique. Chris was joined by his wife and young son and daughter for the day.

Many students from both the Senior and Junior Schools, including Kindergarten, Year 3 and Year 5 were given the opportunity to watch the action. It was a great opportunity for these students to witness one of the first steps in the process of turning wool fibre into clothing. How privileged are the students of St Greg’s to have such an experience!

Many thanks must go to Rick Nieuwenhuis for his assistance in the organisation of the day.
