Director of Students

Dear College community,

As we continue to introduce elements of Positive Education in our teaching and learning practices, it is with great pleasure that I announce that the College will be updating the MERIT SYSTEM.

From Semester Two, students at St Greg’s in Years 7-12 will have further opportunity to achieve a College Medallion. Traditionally, to receive a Medallion, students needed to obtain 75 green stamps throughout the year.

The new system will still include the accumulation of green stamps, but we have now introduced Positive Merits and Reward Points to help achieve the required amount.

Another exciting element of the new Merit System is that students can redeem tangible rewards from the Rewards Dashboard once they accumulate sufficient points.

To get a better understanding of how the new system will work please refer to the Policy document below:

What is the Aim?

To provide a structure that students of all year groups will endeavour to be a part of which will assist in the College positive wellbeing program. The Merit System will allow all students to have the opportunity to earn a College Medallion.

How can this be achieved?

Students earn points via Green Stamps, Positive Merits and Reward Points.

What are they worth?

  • Green Stamps are placed in the Diary on the date received. The teacher signs it and ticks the reason as to why a stamp was given. Parents also need to sign the Diary notification.
  • The Homeroom Teacher keeps a register every week when the Diary is inspected and signed. This register is recorded in the Rewards Dashboard during Friday Homeroom.
  • Green Stamps are to be issued to students who achieve the themes above. Not for general College expectations.
  • It is recommended that the teacher gives out at least one green stamp every lesson.
  • Red stamps counter-strike green stamps when tallies are conducted.

  • Reward points are only issued outside the classroom, to students who display exceptional achievement around the themes above.
  • When outside the classroom, Reward Points are issued from a staff member’s smart phone or laptop.
  • The student’s ID card will be required for Rewards Points to be issued through the QR code.
  • Staff use the St Greg’s Rewards App on their smart phone to load the points.
  • The Rewards App reads the QR code on the student’s ID card and automatically allocates a point.
  • A Reward Point has the same value as a Green Stamp.
  • Staff are encouraged to identify at least 2 students per class each week who have displayed extraordinary achievement around the themes above.
  • The Positive Merit is worth 3 Points and an email is sent to the student to identify and congratulate their achievement.
  • Points will automatically be added to the student’s Rewards Dashboard at the end of each week.
  • The Year Coordinator will create the Award via the Sentral Wellbeing module.
  • These awards will be presented to students in the Year group assembly by the Year Coordinator.
  • Once a student achieves a Maroon Award [75 points], a College Medallion is achieved.
  • Students will receive the College Medallion during a College Assembly by the Principal.

Rewards

REDEEMABLE TANGIBLE REWARDS

  • Students can use their Rewards points to redeem College memorabilia and other perks.
  • Rewards vary depending on the number of points accumulated. These points do not expire and can be accumulated over several years to claim a bigger prize or reward.
  • Rewards can be redeemed online via the College Rewards Dashboard.

Student Rewards Dashboard

  • The College Merit System is known as the Rewards Dashboard.
  • The Homeroom teacher is responsible for updating Green Stamps on the dashboard each Friday.
  • When a student achieves a milestone, a notification will be sent to the student and Year Coordinator.
  • Students and staff can monitor all rewards activity through the dashboard.
  • Teachers can use the data to enhance their student feedback and wellbeing
  • From the data collected teachers can gain an understanding of students who might be ‘traveling under the radar’ and have the possibility to encourage students to receive more Green Stamps, Positive Merits or Rewards Points.

Important

The student Diary plays an important role in this process. Staff, students, and parents all need to have access to the Diary for the purpose of communication and confirmation of acknowledgement between all involved.

The classroom teacher is also instrumental in the delivery of the stamp notification, the Positive Merit or Rewards point. The idea being that they are not easily handed out, in order to conserve the value of the merit itself.
