From the Director of Primary

It has been wonderful to witness the positive manner in which students have returned to learning during the past fortnight.

Unquestionably, COVID-19 has had horrific consequences on people’s lives and the economy.  The Learning@Home experience has offered us a new perspective on everything that we have taken for granted – our freedoms, leisure, connections, school, family and friends.  Being grateful for what we have is certainly one positive outcome that we cannot afford to overlook. Here are some expressions of gratitude from our students.

  • I like playing bear with my friends outside.   Maggie, Prep
  • Learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears with Mrs Row.   Willow, Prep
  • I like seeing everyone and making the Penguins in Art.   Ellie, Year 1
  • Spending time with my friends and doing PE.   Mia, Year 1
  • My friends because they are kind and always there for me.   Sophie, Year 3
  • I have Mrs Copper and Mrs Fasnacht back!   Lavinia, Year 3
  • Teachers looking after us.   Georgie Year 4
  • My friends and all of the resources in our classroom.   Aven,Year 4
  • It is so much easier to learn now that we are back at school.    Elka, Year 5
  • I am so grateful that I am back at school, in my classroom and learning.   Maggie, Year 5
  • Teachers – being able to see their faces in real life!   Maddie, Year 6
  • It is so much easier to complete work with the help of teachers.   Esther, Year 6
  • Actually sitting next to my friends.   Charlie, Year 6

Congratulations

Although the Primary School is unable to gather as one group at present, it does not prevent us from acknowledging outstanding achievements by students.  Year 6 Navy student, Madeleine Lowe and her sister Olivia (Year 8) have received the Spirit of Mary Aikenhead Award for generously volunteering their time to assist the Midway Point Neighbourhood House.  Madeleine and Olivia have not only recognised the needs of others but shown genuine concern and the motivation to help as modelled by Mary Aikenhead, the foundress of the Sisters of Charity.

I would also like to commend the Year 6 Leaders and House Captains for their commitment to these important roles of leadership and service.  During the past fortnight the Leaders have encouraged the Year 3 to 6 students to participate in Mount Carmel's first photography competition to raise awareness of World Environment Day (June 5).  Biodiversity was this year's theme and the students have certainly captured the variety of life through their amazing images, which I encourage you to scroll through the gallery of images below.  The competition closes this Friday, June 19.

Restorative Leaders

The Restorative Practice Leaders, after a delayed start due to COVID-19, are now out and about at lunch time, working with students to promote positive relationships in the yard.
