A Message from Cameron

It has been fantastic to see how well our school community has transitioned back to face-to-face teaching and learning. The teachers have worked incredibly hard to ensure that this transition has been as smooth as possible, along with providing engaging and authentic learning opportunities for our students.

In my travels around the school I have enjoyed seeing so much wonderful learning occurring. Prep C and Prep T enjoyed their Fun Days - it was lovely to see the students (and teachers) having so much fun in each other's company. There has been some great maths happening in Grade 1/2, with the students being able to explain to me the strategies they use to solve a range of problems. Some great discussions have been had around the concept of sustainability, with the Grade 5/6 students building some very clever sustainable houses. The Grade 3/4 students have been developing a political campaign using the techniques and strategies that they learnt during the unit on persuasive writing.

This week has been Planning Week at AGPS, and is the forum where every teaching team works collaboratively for an entire day to analyse data, discuss and plan sequential units of work in accordance with the Victorian Curriculum. These days provide an excellent opportunity for teachers to spend substantial, uninterrupted time together to plan engaging and authentic units of work.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge the phenomenal effort of our Acting Principal, David. David's calm, methodical and measured approach has ensured that the Altona Green Primary School community has not just survived, but indeed thrived during these unprecedented times.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday period and I am looking forward to a fantastic Term 3.

Take care & Kind regards,

Cameron
