Behind the Art Room Door

COCKATOO, GRADES 5/6

The Grade 5/6 students studied famous Indigenous paintings and explored the dot painting technique. We discussed methods of tinting the colour blue to create a sky by adding white paint to create different shades of blue. Once the blue background was dry they created a sense of movement by adding dot designs. Lastly, they drew and coloured a cheeky cockatoo to paste in the foreground. Well done Grade 5/6!

KOALAS, GRADES 3/4

The Grade 3/4 students experimented with overlapping to give the appearance of depth, and explored light and dark with double-load painting. They added texture to their work by using pastel lines to create these adorable Koalas. We all agreed that Koalas are such beautiful native animals that we are so lucky to have native to our country.

POLAR BEARS, GRADES 1/2

The Grade 1/2‘s explored Canadian artist Ted Harrison’s colourful paintings.

We discussed the background and foreground in pictures.

Our backgrounds were created with black oil pastel and liquid watercolours.

The gorgeous polar bears were drawn with a black sharpie fine liner.

Such a fun way to start Winter in Art Class.
