Election Morning-Parents & Friends Stall
Our school was one of the many polling booths set up for the Federal Election on Saturday the 18th of May. To take advantage of a large crowds on our grounds, the Parents and Friends organised a cake stall, sharing the space with the Rotary Club of North Melbourne and their sausage sizzle BBQ. All sorts of cakes, biscuits, slices and sweets were cooked and donated by NMPS families. This generosity enabled the stall to run from early morning to mid afternoon turning a healthy profit of $2100 for our school.
The event was a great success and we would like to thank all of the wonderful families who made or supplied treats for the sale. We would love to make the Election Day Cake Stall a regular and well known event along with the Rotary sausage sizzle whenever our school is used for big events such as elections.
Parents and Friends started the year with a discussion about what our aims are for the year 2019. We endeavour to support activities at our school that foster community and inject fun and engagement with the school community. We appreciate that we have the capacity to raise funds for a variety of school projects. We also recognise that NMPS parents and the community like to know that the money they contribute for fundraising events at our school have an intended aim and that as parents, they can play a part in helping a cause for their children. With that in mind the P&F committee considered where we could best support the school with the funds that we could raise.
During 2018 to 2019 there has been a whole school push to get more students on bikes supported by the introduction of a bike education program. There has been ongoing discussions within the parent community about reducing the number of cars on the roads around the school during drop off and pick up times and the desire to improve bike parking infrastructure at the school.
With this in mind, the P & F agreed that we would like to direct funds raised this year to assist the school in improving bike parking infrastructure. This is a plan to encourage more children to use bikes and scooters to get to school. P & F also recognise that the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program and the Caring Kitty will also benefit from fundraising by the P & F committee.
We have had a great start to our fundraising with a Term 1 Raffle, Mother's Day Stall and Election Day Cake Stall mentioned above. In total we have raised just over $8000 and wish to thank the NMPS community for all of your help and engagement in these events. Please join us for P & F meetings on the second Tuesday of every month in the school staffroom at 7pm. Our next meeting is next week on 7 June. If you would like to be part of the planning and running of events, we would love your involvement and input.
