Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Visiting all the classrooms this week reminded me of how lucky we are to be part of such a fabulous school community that offers so many terrific opportunities. A diverse group of people working together where decisions are driven by what we believe to be the best for our students. Students are encouraged to accept challenges, step out of their comfort zone, extend their thinking and solve problems collaboratively. We see students engaged in learning using many varied environments and resources. Students are happy and engaged in both learning and play.

YEAR ONE ASSEMBLY

Today our Year One students treated us to an assembly informing us of their excellent incursion with David the Entomologist. I think he would have been very impressed with how much the students could recall from their incursion. A big thank you to our Wonderful Ones. Ms Ilich, Miss Saraco and Miss Rushmere were very proud of their students.

WORD MANIA

How many words can you build in 3 minutes?

Australia's biggest and most fun literacy competition is back!

2017 Word Mania challenge is just around the corner. We are currently in the practice phase of the competition and all students are encouraged to make sure their fingers are nimble and their minds are ready to build words.

Word Mania is a fun and effective way for all students to improve their literacy skills. Students simply login using their existing details and play via the Literacy Planet website.

Round one of the competition is Monday July 31-Friday August 4. During this time, we look forward to monitoring our schools progress on the Regional and National Leader boards.

Students can play as many times as they like both at school and at home. We look forward to keeping you posted on our achievements.

LIBRARY

The students have been over the moon with the funky new feel in the Kooly area of the Library. We have been lucky enough to purchase some lovely bright modern pieces of furniture to help us create a fresh, vibrant and comfortable feeling. The room has truly been revitalised. Our cosy couches, comfy cushions and outstanding ottomans are a welcomed addition. They have helped to create an inviting area for students, classes and parents to come together to enjoy the gift of books. Our simply fabulous teacher chair has been the talk of the town!

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Tiffany Cesare on her achievement in the Joondalup Eisteddfod 2017.  Tiffany was awarded 1st Place AMEB Grade 2 Pianoforte Solo.

Well Done Tiffany.

WINTER CARNIVAL

Primary Sports Report

This week saw the completion of the weekly Years 5/6 Interschool winter fixtures. Throughout the term our winter sports teams have competed strongly and they have produced some very good results. The skill level, sportsmanship and commitment have been most encouraging. Well done to all our Year 5 and 6 students on their performance.

WINTER LIGHTNING CARNIVAL

Next week on Thursday 22 June, John XXIII College will be hosting the Year 6 IPSHA Co-Ed Winter Lightning Carnival. This Carnival will see 10, IPSHA schools competing against each other in Netball, AFL, Soccer, Hockey and AFL. There will be over 400 students playing in 64 teams across 30 venues around the College grounds. Although the Carnival is one that promotes participation, skills, social interaction and sportsmanship it is always highly competitive and a keenly anticipated event.

Our football team will be competing in the “Eagles Cup” and our boys and girls are looking forward to performing well. A report will be presented in the last newsletter for the term. A huge thank you to our Year 10 students who will be umpiring all the games during the day and to the Year 6 parent helpers who will be doing all the catering.

CROSS COUNTRY

Cross Country training is held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and it is gaining momentum as we approach the Inter-house Carnival to be held on the 2nd Tuesday of Term 3. It is tremendous to see whole families rocking-up to the training and improving their fitness.
