Fr Kevin King Cup Athletics

On Friday 2 August John XXIII College held their 2019 Fr Kevin King Cup Athletics Carnival at the WA State Athletics Stadium. We were blessed with beautiful sunny weather which was welcomed by all. Participation was excellent in all events and the contest was strong.

The carnival began with the traditional Year 12 entrance parade. The Year 12 students then presented their incredible and entertaining house performances to set the scene for what would be an exciting day.

The novelty activities and numerous track events gave all students the opportunity to participate.

The result was close, it was a fight between last years champions St Louis and Campion. It was a close finish all the way until the end, however, it was Campion who reigned victorious and won the Kevin King Cup. St Louis was awarded the Spirit Award and Loyola was the best dressed House for 2019.

The final standings for the day were:

1st

An ACC squad has now been selected and all members are encouraged to attend athletics training which takes place every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7:00am-8:00am. These training sessions are still open to all students wishing to take advantage of our specialist athletics coaches.

Rugby

On Tuesday 6 August John XXIII College’s First XV Rugby team played the undefeated Christ Church Grammar School at the Christ Church playing fields for the second time for 2019.

After falling short by the narrowest of margins in the first encounter, the boys pulled together in a determined effort which saw the final score fall our way.

Billy Browne was a wrecking ball throughout the match and regularly broke the line thanks to the great service from Reuben Patchett and Blake Mettam, while Daniel Reynolds and Lochlain Lafferty dominated the breakdown. The win saw the boys regain the Christ Church trophy to compliment the Scotch Cup secured three weeks ago.

Thank you to Christian Goulding and Sandy Mettam for all of the efforts coaching and supporting our team this year.

AFL

On Wednesday 7 August John XXIII College competed in the ACC Year 10 Eagles School Boy Cup held at Lightning Park. This team have been coached and managed by Mr Anthony Yates throughout the year and were ready for the games coming their way.

Other teams taking part in the carnival were Kingsway Christian College, Aranmore Catholic College, Irene McCormack Catholic College and Court Grammar School. Our Year 10 boys performed extremely well winning all their games with the exception of their game against Irene McCormack Catholic College to finish second.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Chloe Margaria, Year 11, who is representing WA at a benchmark figure skating competition, Crystal Challenge, held in Melbourne this weekend.
