Welcome Back to 2018

The students from Years 1-6 began on Tuesday and have participated in a number of activities focusing on Wellbeing. It has been designed to help establish collaboration and leadership qualities in the students. The Preps have been participating in testing but began today as a whole cohort. They met Buddies, completed fun activities and went home tired but excited about the days ahead. We look forward to tomorrow's Parent Morning Tea and whole school Mass and families are encouraged to attend. Our next school closure day is Friday February 23rd to continue our work on Social Emotional Learning (Berry St).

Student Absences

In accordance with the Education and Training Reform Act 2006, schooling is compulsory for children and young people from 6-17 years unless an exemption has been granted.  All registered schools must record student attendance twice per day in primary schools and record, in writing, the reason given for each absence.  This is necessary to:

-meet legislative requirements

-discharge schools' duty of care for all students

A review of the Attendance Guidelines for schools was undertaken by the Victorian Minister for Education in Term 4, 2017.  Changes to the Attendance Guidelines now state: 'schools must advise parents/guardians of unexplained absences, on the same day, as soon as practicable, including for post-compulsory aged students'.

These changes will help ensure the safety of school-aged children during school hours and that schools are supported in their duty-of-care obligations.

We are currently investigating the use of IT software to notify parents of their child's attendance on a same-day basis.  In the interim, any absences for your child/ren must be reported to the class teacher via email or a phone call to the Office or on the website by 9:30am on the day of the absence.

Sports Days

All year levels have compulsory Physical Education lessons.

As well as the following lesson day, all students are to wear sport uniform on Fridays starting from 9th February.

For the month of February lessons are as follows:

*Tuesday - Year 6, Year 5 and 3R

*Wednesday -  Year 1 and Year 2

*Thursday - Year 4, Prep and 3W

Uniform

This term all students must be in full Summer uniform, with the exception of P.E days and Fridays.  On P.E days and Fridays, students are to wear the correct Sport uniform.  A reminder that the rugby top is part of the Sport uniform and can be worn on P.E days and Fridays.  The microfibre zip jacket can only be worn over the woollen jumper (worn with Winter uniform) for extra warmth, and on P.E days.  The microfibre zip jacket does not replace the woollen jumper.  Please read the attached Uniform Policy (also found on the School website) which includes a link to a copy of the note that will be communicated home if students are not in correct uniform.

Meet the Teacher - Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th February
