What’s happening in the patch?
The Year 2’s enjoyed taking turns with the pruning saw to cut down the older banana plants. Once the banana plant has flowered it will not flower again.
We have been very fortunate to have Huyen, a parent from the school, who has a wealth of knowledge on these plants. Huyen and her family recently travelled around Australia, and they were fortunate to work on a banana plantation, Huyen has shared some of her experience and has helped us move forward with our banana plant. We now know that next year when we get a flower that develops fruit; there is a special bag we can put over it to help it ripen. Thank you Huyen, we will miss you in the patch.
Cauliflower, leek, kale, brussels sprouts and broccoli seedlings are ready for a late winter harvest. We planted Brussels sprouts to show children how they grow, such an interesting plant, the plants grows up and the sprouts grow out from the stem.
