Under 8's Day

On Friday 17th May we had our annual Under 8's Day for Prep and Year 1 students and what a wonderful morning it was!  Below are recounts of the student's experiences and some photos from the morning.

In the morning we had Under 8's Day! First I went to the petting farm. 'Bah!" went the goat when I patted it. Next I went to the pot plant area. Then I went to do some dancing with the high school students. Finally I visited the book area and they had all my favourite books!     By Eva Coa

Yay it was Under 8's Day!  First I went to the face painter to have my face painted. Next I went to the petting zoo. I liked the rabbit. After the petting zoo Chilli and I went to do some dancing. Finally I had a sausage sizzle and a popper. My favourite thing was seeing the zoo and the boomerang making!

Yr. 4 - 6 Sports Carnival

FINALLY a sports day that we didn't have to postpone due to poor weather :) Last Thursday was such a great day with all students showing amazing sportsmanship. Most of the age group champions were decided on the last event of the day and it was great to see the celebrations between students when the final champion was decided. There was genuine happiness from the runner up for their fellow competitor. This was truly a credit to the students, staff and parents at PBSS and the friendly atmosphere that the school and wider community has worked hard to develop. Congratulations to all age champions and those who have gained selection to compete at the district carnival. I would like to thank Mr Locke for another successful carnival. Sport is really thriving here at PBSS :)

Year 5 Gold Rush Excursion

Year 5 students will be participating in a Gold Rush Excursion in Beenleigh on Tuesday the 11th of June. This is a great excursion with many hands on activities that will be a great introduction for their Term 3 HASS unit. Students will engage in role plays, dig for 'gold' and purchase a mining licence as part of the whole experience. The cost of this excursion is $50.00. Information regarding the excursion and an invoice have been sent out. Payment and permission forms are due back by Wednesday 5th June.

Term 3 - Year 4 and 5 Camp

Parents of students in year 4 and 5 this is an early reminder that both year levels will be attending a camp next term. Hopefully this early notice will support you with budgeting for your child to attend either camp. The approximate costs and location of the camps are as follows:

- Year 4 - Australia Zoo and Underwater World (1 night) - Week 8 - Approx cost $220

- Year 5 - Thunderbird Park (2 Nights) - Week 9 - Approx cost $320

Each year level will be sending out further details regarding these camps later this term or early next term.

Attendance - Target 95%

As part of our school attendance policy, we monitor every student's attendance regularly and support families who are finding it difficult to get their child to school. Our school attendance target is an attendance rate of 95%. In line with Education Queensland Policy, we will communicate with parents whose child has an attendance rate less than 85%. We will be sending letters home to those families in the coming weeks to inform them that their child has a low attendance rate and to contact the school should they require further support. Studies show that increased absences impact student outcomes and we are here to support families who are having difficulty reaching our school target of 95%.
