CEO'S Report & City LLEN News

CEO'S Report

This festive time of year brings with it so many good things, catching up with friends, exchanging presents, catching up with colleagues new and old and planning for the year ahead.  I am pleased to say that the City LLEN has had a great year, we have exceeded our targets for both the LLEN – Disengaged Learners Program and for the Structured Workplace Learning program.  This means we have helped hundreds of students and teachers through out the year, not to mention employers and other stakeholders.  We look forward to 2020 and to implementing our LLEN contract which will focus on industry engagement and school careers and transition programs.

A big warm thank you to Wendy, Andrew, Mary and Claire for their hardwork and to the City LLEN Committee of Management for all their help and support in 2019.

I wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and we will see you all next year.

VET Statewide Breifing

On Tuesday 19 November CityLLEN staff attended the VET Statewide briefing at the Melbourne Convention Centre. Over 70,000 Victorian students are now enrolled in a VET subject. School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships are also popular with a 10% increase in participation in the past year. There are a lot of new resources available to promote VET participation – visit GET VET www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/getvet to watch a range of new videos and download posters and information sheets.

Flexi Schools Network

The last meeting for the year took place at the CityLLEN office on Friday 15 November. Nerissa Kamp from the City of Melbourne explained her role as a Park Ranger and discussed a potential program with schools for 2020. A range of other programs were discussed for next year in light of the new LLEN contract including industry immersion days, TAFE Tasters, increasing student engagement through participation in sport via two School Slam events, arts based activities including digital arts, game developing and photography, and strengthened relationships with tertiary providers to provide greater pathway options for VCAL students. The LLEN looks forward to continuing to support the Flexi Schools Network in 2020.
