Happy New Year and welcome back to all!
The Baimbridge College Careers Department is not wasting anytime, and we have hit the ground running for what will be a big 2020!
This week, students from years 10-12 took part in study and time management sessions run by the Melbourne based education company Elevate. Sessions were run in year levels for a double period. It is hoped that all students, regardless of aspiration and intended career direction, found the content valuable and energising. Year nine students will be attending similar sessions later in the year.
A letter has been sent out electronically to all year 11 parents and students to remind and inform them about the year 11 Melbourne trip coming up mid-May. This year, all year 11 students have been invited to attend. Consequently, the range and breadth of sites and institutions to be visited will be expanded to accommodate as many interests as possible. It is expected that the majority of year 11 students will attend, so please start saving up to secure your seat on the bus.
While year 10 work experience is two terms away, it is never too early to begin thinking about it and investigating potential destinations that float your boat. The paperwork, expectations and structure of work experience will be discussed in careers classes over the coming weeks.
Please find below links to two interesting articles that appeared on the Melbourne Child Psychology and School Psychology Services, Port Melbourne website recently. The articles articulate the important value of strategic parental involvement in a child’s education, and how your positive attitude and support ensures they have the best chance to develop a growth mindset and mental wellness. There is also a link to the Australian Government Labour Market Portal. Here you will fund current job outlook information that can be used to shape educational and career choices.
Enjoy.
