What a busy start to 2019.  So many things have already taken place with loads more yet to come.

By now most Boarders have settled into boarding and have made lots of new friends, both in the residential setting and with our many Day students as well.   They are extremely long days here at the College and we encourage students to listen to their bodies and go to bed earlier if they see fit.

Locking Bedroom Doors

One thing that has caused issues in the past is the locking of the bedroom doors at night.  This raised its head in the first year here at Wokalup when the fire alarm went off at around 3am.  By the time staff went through the dorms as a final check approximately 9 – 10 minutes had elapsed and we found a student fast asleep in a locked room and fellow students valiantly trying to wake him to no avail.   This highlighted to us the inherent danger of locked bedroom doors in this situation and request that bedroom doors are left unlocked at night for safety reasons.

WACoA Carnival

WACoA carnival last week was a fantastic event and all Boarders who stayed in for the weekend were exceptionally well behaved, supportive of participants and willing to assist both at the campus and at sporting events.  Well done and thank you from all staff involved.

Dorms

The last of the dorms received replacement couches this year so all dorms look smart with comfortable furniture.  We request co-operation in looking after our furniture  and that any damage is reported promptly.

After Hours' Activities

Once again we have a myriad of different offerings for activities after hours, some of which include various sporting practices in the lead up to WACoA, horse riding, mountain biking, running club, after school trades, local sporting competitions including boys' and girls' AFL, boys' and girls' hockey, basketball, tennis, the Music Room. A new addition is an art/drawing class being held on a semi – regular pattern of nights being hosted by Trudi Curran from Allanson.   Some truly talented students are enjoying this tuition.

Prep

Prep Time is 6.45pm – 8.00pm,  Monday – Thursday.   Can parents please assist us by not contacting students during these times.   It is challenging enough for staff to give students a quiet and productive environment that is conducive to study without the distraction of mobile phone calls, which not only distract the student receiving the call but other students in their dorm.

Once again students who are not gainfully using their time independently in  their own rooms will undertake supervised Prep in the Dining Room, until such time as they can demonstrate good study skills and practices.

Boarder of The Week

This year we have introduced "Boarder of the Week".  Students who have earnt this award over the week through offering to help, being respectful,  assisting staff and students are rewarded with either a $20 fuel voucher or $20 IGA Voucher.
