This term has certainly progressed very quickly, with a variety of activities taking place in the workshops and the College in general.
Fun Fact - Did you know that timber exists in every natural colour except blue?
Interim Report
The Trades staff have completed writing the interim reports for their students. Please remember this is a snap shot of where your son/daughter is at this point in time. Areas of concern will be indicated and staff members may request an interview. If this is the case, I would encourage parents/guardians to make time available on the day to attend the interview.
The Trades Staff will be available at the parent interviews at the end of the term to discuss any queries or concerns that you may have with your son's/daughter’s progress.
Personal Projects
If the subject a student is studying involves a personal project, parents and students are reminded that it is College Policy that a 50% deposit is required before the student commences the project and then the balance of the project is fully paid for before it is removed from the College premises. If there are any queries in regards to this please speak to the relevant instructors or contact myself. For financial concerns or methods of payment please contact Mrs Teresa Hickman, the College’s Corporate Services Manager.
Staffing
We would like to thank Mr Will Forrest for covering the classes in Building and Construction over the course of the term. Thanks Will. Mr Jeff Kenny returns in Term Two.
Building Projects
The students have been busy learning the intricacies of brick paving. They have come to the realisation that some tradespeople require a strong work ethic to cope with the labour intensive nature of paving. The ability to run string lines and levelling has been a great challenge for many.
A gentle reminder; the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.
The pathway leading to Trades has also been completed over the course of the term. Well done guys.
Trade Training Policy Reminder
It is Trade Training Policy and industry practice that in workshops where welding processes are undertaken that operators are fully covered – long pants and long sleeves – to reduce the risk of people being burnt from the UV radiation that is present in these processes. The wearing of overalls (not bib and brace) would meet these requirements.
Overalls were included in the students’ uniform list. The Trade Training department is strongly encouraging students to wear overalls in both the automotive and metals workshop, in order to protect, not only themselves but also to prolong the life of their uniforms.
In addition to this, students are required to wear long pants in all other areas within Trade Training.
Please feel free to contact the respective instructor or myself at the College on 97822100 or email with any queries or concerns in regards to the above matters or your son’s/daughter’s progress.
I look forward to seeing parents at the lunch and interviews at the end of the term.
