I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Kirsty Papalia, who has recently tendered her resignation, for her dedication and commitment to improving student outcomes whilst she has been at the College. We wish Kirsty all the best for the future. A special welcome is made to Mrs Carice Cooper who has been appointed in a fixed term capacity to fill this vacancy.

Mr Colin Newton will be taking well deserved Long Service Leave during Term 2. We wish him all the best and hope he has a relaxing and enjoyable break. Mrs Melissa Butler will be returning to the College for the term to take some of Mr Newton's classes, whilst others will be taken by Mr Gelmi.

Student Progress

Progress Reports have recently been sent out to parents and guardians. I encourage students and parents to carefully consider these reports and to see them as the impetus needed to make changes, if necessary, to ensure success in the class area.

Students can improve their performance in class by:

  • Using class time wisely – listen to teachers instructions the first time they are given and start work immediately upon the teacher’s instructions.
  • Seeking help when they don’t understand something.
  • Using the School Diary to record homework and due dates.
  • Reading HAC Chat and checking homework and due dates.
  • Utilising allocated Prep time wisely – plan what homework needs doing and which night they are going to do it. Include time to look over class work and revise for tests.
  • Being prepared to do additional Prep time if they haven’t finished homework or assessments. This is particularly important for ATAR students who will regularly need to do additional study hours to succeed in these courses.

Parent Interviews

These are a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers, discuss their progress and develop strategies to help your child achieve their potential in their subjects.

It is expected your child will attend the parent interviews with you as we believe it is when we develop a strong three way partnership between the student, parent and the teacher that students experience the greatest success.

If a parent interview has been requested and you are not able to attend on this day I strongly encourage you to contact your child’s teachers via phone or email to discuss their progress or to make another time that is convenient to both yourself and the teacher involved.

We look forward to meeting with you and developing a close working relationship with you and your child.

Being Equipped For Class

Could students, with the assistance of their parents and guardians, please use the holiday break to check that they are well equipped and prepared for Term 2 classes.

Students are required to bring to class a functioning computer with the appropriate Microsoft Office software loaded on to it. (Please refer to information about the computer and software required that was sent out with student enrolment packages for specific requirements.  A copy of this information can be found on our website).

Students need their own computer to complete basic class tasks and assessments in class. It is important to note that most classrooms do not have alternative computers for the students to use. If a student doesn’t have their computer with them they are often unable to complete the required task or assessment.

Students are also reminded that personal computers cannot be charged during class time.

In addition to the BYOD, parents/guardians should ensure students have a supply of basic stationery and equipment that is in good working condition – For example: pens, pencils, eraser, ruler, calculator, file paper, files etc.

It is both expected and required that all students have these items when attending class sessions.

Year 12 Externally Set Tasks (EST's)

As a requirement of the WACE, all students studying General courses at Year 12 level are required to sit a state wide Externally Set Task, worth 15% of the overall grade in each general subject they are undertaking.

Externally Set Tasks allow for:

  • students across the state to be compared on the same task
  • Schools Curriculum Standards Authority to compare our students’ results in the Externally Set Task with those received from their school based tasks.

Essential Information about the EST’s:

  • Tests will be conducted between Monday 6th May and Friday 24th May.
  • They will be conducted during the students’ normal class days (Monday and Wednesday). Please avoid these class days when making appointments that can be made for an alternative day.
  • All students will sit the same test at the same time.
  • Medical certificates/authorised leave are required if a student is absent.

Extra revision required:

  • It is critical that students take these tests seriously.
  • Students should be studying for the EST’s in addition to completing the daily homework set by their teachers.
  • If students are not sure how or what to revise they should speak to their teachers.

If parents have concerns or require subject specific information please start by contacting your child’s teacher in that area. Please feel free to contact me at the College on 9782 2100 or via email with any queries or concerns in regards to the above matters or your child’s progess.
