Book-week

Book-week in Victoria is August the 17th to August the 23rd.  To celebrate book-week and our library we are having a book-week dress-up with the theme "Come as your favourite book character" which will be held on Thursday the 22nd of August.

We have purchased many of the nominated books from the Victorian Book Council "Books of the Year" for our library.

Art Project

Our Arts/Story Project is really progressing well.  Thanks to everyone for giving their time.  If you have a story at home could you please send it to school so it can be included in the project.

Balanced Readers

We continued our professional learning on Monday the 5th of August as school with our focus on developing balanced readers.

The focus is to ensure our children can decode text, clearly comprehend their reading and fluency and phrasing.

How can you assist your child's reading at home.

  • read to them every night
  • listen to your child read every night (take home books should be familiar reading)
  • regularly discuss what good readers do - fluent, self correct, re read to make sense
  • read recipes, instructions, advertising
  • reinforce the good strategies our child uses
  • retell story - what was the story about
  • discuss feelings of characters, events, possible outcomes
  • read a wide range of text types

Chinese Students Visit

We are excited to be providing opportunities for our students to be real Global Citizens.  Our Chinese visitors have been really enjoying their time at our school and in Australia.

We hope the friendships that the children have developed with continue long after the children return to China.

Thankyou to amazingly kind DCC students who have welcomed and cared for our International guest both this week and last Friday.  The children are really putting their Mandarin learning into action.

**On Friday 9th August at 2:10pm we will be holding a special assembly with songs and a presentation for our Chinese Visitors.  Everyone is welcome to join us.
