SAKG

The Monty SAKG Garden needs your help!

Spring has well and truly arrived which means we need your help in Monty’s SAKG garden! If you have been wanting to be involved but didn’t know how, now is the perfect time – see below to find out how!

Garden Volunteers Group will resume in Term 4

Come and help out in the SAKG garden every Wednesday Afternoon at 2:50pm, just before pick-up. You don’t need any gardening skills or equipment and you can take it as easy as you like. There is no need to sign up, just meet at the garden.

We need “brown” materials for our compost bins!

Our students are doing an excellent job at composting our classroom food scraps, however we are running low on “brown” materials to add to our bins. In order to create the best compost, compost bins require the layering of brown and green materials. The green layers are made up of nitrogen rich food scraps (which we have plenty of) and brown layers consists of materials rich in carbon like dried leaves, straw (old pet straw is perfect), and newspaper. If you have any of the above to spare, contact the office!

The chicken coop needs some love.

The chicken wire surrounding our chicken coop is rusty and needs replacing. If you can assist with the installation of some new wire please contact the office.

Watering volunteers

We need watering volunteers for the holidays and weekends. To ensure a bountiful crop of veggies for the students when they return, the SAKG garden requires constant watering over the warmer months.  If you are interested in becoming a watering volunteer, keep an eye out on Compass as I will release a sign up timetable soon.

Thanks a bunch!

In the Kitchen

Foundation and Year 1/2 Students were straight back into cooking this week and produced some delicious vegetable dumplings. They enjoyed copping the vegetables in the little choppers.

The dumplings tasted so good that most students ate 2 or more!

Kitchen Class Volunteers

If you would like to help out in one of the classes or help with preparation please add your name to the Google doc or email me via Compass.

The volunteer roster for this term has been posted on Compass.

Do you have an old coffee plunger in the back of a cupboard?

This term we are hoping to explore the process of fermentation. If you have an old coffee plunger that you no longer use, we would love to give it new life in our ‘fermentation lab’. You can drop it directly to the kitchen on Wednesdays or Thursdays or leave at the office.

Enjoy the Term!
