From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,
I hope you enjoy this week’s edition of the Newsletter.
College Captains and College Executive Speeches
In an inspiring day this week our prospective College Captains and candidates for the College executive of 2020 spoke of their passion and desire to take up senior student leadership positions in 2020. The theme of many was around the concept of student leader as servant leader. Many were also able to weave the School Motto of “Be Not Afraid” into their speech, reflecting not only a preparedness to embrace the motto but also to model this practice to the rest of the community in their chosen role. It was impressive to witness the preparation each candidate had taken in crafting their speeches and the eloquence in which they delivered it. For the first time students voted on-line immediately after the final speeches ensuring the integrity of the process and a rapid turn around in the results. These results will assist in determining the short listed candidates who move on to the next step, a formal interview with members of the Leadership team and current Student Executive. I look forward to announcing the successful candidates and their portfolios in next week’s Newsletter.
Building Update
If you have been into the College over the past week’s you would have observed a hive of activity as building projects are occuring on both campuses. Currently at the Cranbourne Campus, the Arts Precinct is progressing at a very steady rate. It is anticipated that classes will move into the new complex for the beginning of Term 4. Kolbe House will also enjoy these new surrounds as their new “home”. Over on the Clyde North Campus the Drama/Dance/Music/Food and Hospitality Centre is progressing with the slab laid and steelwork on-site. This is a complex build and it is anticipated that classes will commence in this centre in Term 2 of 2020. Other building programs will follow immediately after these and include:
- VCAL Centre – Cranbourne – January 2020 – June 2020
- Administration Centre – Cranbourne – July 2020 – June 2021
- Performing Arts Centre – Clyde North – May 2020 – April 2021
We as a College are committed to provide modern and innovative learning spaces for the 21st century learner. I look forward to keeping you informed of these and other exciting projects.
CCTV Policy
Recently we have updated our Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) policy. It is important to highlight to all parents the purpose behind CCTV and the policy surrounding it. St. Peter’s College is committed to providing a safe environment for all employees, students and visitors. CCTV is an effective crime prevention tool that can assist with improving risk management controls and personal safety.
The use of CCTV by St. Peter’s College assists with detecting and deterring vandalism, unauthorised entry into buildings, theft, other unwanted activities and monitoring emergency situations, should they occur. Camera locations are not and will not be located in the following areas: Private locations such as toilets, showers or change rooms, in first aid rooms, sick bays or staff rooms and in classrooms inclusive of breakout spaces. Suitable signage is on display highlighting the use of CCTV at various locations around the College. The full policy can be accessed on the College web-site. Queries or concerns are always welcome. In this instance these should be directed to either Phillip Mustey, Business Manager or Stephen Bloomer, Network Manager.
Interschool Athletics
Congratulations is extended to our Interschool Athletics team who participated in the SIS Athletics carnival earlier this week. From all reports our students participated to a high standard with some excellent individual results. In the overall standing St. Peter’s College finished a credible 4th. The news was particularly bright for the future of our Athletics team as the Junior Division finished in 1st place. Congratulations to all students who participated on the day and engaged in the training program prior to the carnival itself. Our thanks is also extended to our PE staff who supported our students.
Year 7 Camp – Cranbourne Campus
Best of luck to our Year 7 Campers who departed this Wednesday and who will return on Friday. You may recall that the camp was postponed due to the Gippsland Fires earlier on in the year. Whilst traditionally the camp has been designed around assisting in the transition process, the timing this year enables friendships to be cemented and others to be formed. We wish all a wonderful time which will hold lasting memories for each and every student.
Father’s Day
Wishing all fathers and those who undertake the role of father a wonderful Father’s day this Sunday. We give a prayer of thanks for fathers both present and past for the contribution they make to shaping who we become.
Enjoy the week ahead.
Mr Chris Black
Principal
