SACSA Soccer Year 3-10

This year, we had 12 teams, 6 boys and 6 girls, take part in SACSA Soccer for Year 3-10, as well as 33 qualified Year 10 PE students who officiated at the Year 5/6 and Year 7/8 carnivals held across the four days of competition in Week 6.

Brooklyn Park had their first independent SACSA sporting teams compete, alongside South Plympton in the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Boys and Girls competitions, competing against other schools in Division 1 and 2. As we shared with our Brooklyn Park students, this event leads the way for future teams to be drawn from this campus, as well as South Plympton representing Emmaus Christian College. It was a significant and important step to take, as Brooklyn Park continues to grow as a part of Emmaus, but also in shaping its own identity in the community and taking part in these memorable sporting events.

Year 7/8 Boys and Girls teams battled hard all day in strong competitions, finishing mid-table respectively. Many of the students in these teams are bottom age players and will be in a good position to improve their performances next year.

Year 9/10 Boys and Girls teams performed very well respectively. Our Girls team lost only one game all day, finishing equal first, and then narrowly missing out on playing in the grand final due to their result of a previous match. A frustrating way to miss out on playing in the grand final, considering how they played as a team all day, displaying their skills, ability to execute set tactics and proving that the Emmaus team were a 'force to be reckoned with'!

Year 9/10 Boys team were able to finish the day undefeated in their pool, finishing in top position and going through to the grand final. The grand final match was dominated by our boys who made and had numerous opportunities to score, but could not execute that final blow (went so close on multiple occasions). The game went to overtime, still drawing and then to penalties. The crowd watching on the day was large and loud in cheering-on our students. Unfortunately the boys could not finish the day off on the ultimate... going down in penalties. But nothing could be taken away from this team who had prepared well, doing everything that was asked of them; holding each other accountable, were supportive and showed a level of professionalism that will hold these students in good-stead on and off the pitch.

Our Year 10 PE students officiated as the central referee in the Year 5/6 and Year 7/8 Boys and Girls matches. Coaches, players and event organisers were very impressed with our student officials in the level of professionalism, knowledge of the game, control and equity displayed across their matches. We all know that without officials such as referees/umpires, school and club sporting matches would be able to go ahead, and these students understand the requirements and possible opportunities that they now have to be reimbursed as an official.

Thank you to all staff, students, parents/caregivers, coaches and old scholars involved across the four days for your heart and efforts to make these events possible and a memorable experience for all. It takes a team effort to run these extracurricular opportunities, especially this year, with the number of students involved in the Soccer Carnivals this year reached almost 200 students!

SACSA Volleyball Year 7-10

In Week 7, we have our Year 7/8 and 9/10 Boys and Girls Volleyball teams competing at The Lights Community and Sporting Centre. We hope to report back to our College community  with another successful event in terms of our conduct, level of our performance and overall team results.

Term 3 Representative Sporting Events

As Term 3 fast approaches, it is important to remind students, parents/caregivers and others of our Emmaus School Sports TeamApp page that contains all updates regarding trials, selected squad members, trainings and event information. It is important that interested people register and view this information, as Term 3 will have many events on again, including SACSA Basketball, Netball, 9-a-Side AFL, Year 9/10 Badminton, Nitro Athletics and more.

Sports Officiating Opportunities

Our weekly Soccer and Basketball teams are continuing to perform well and develop players individual abilities as well as a cohesive and united team. We will be holding a Basketball officiating course for our interested students with the head of Basketball South Australia Umpire Coordinator in the coming weeks. These students will not only become qualified, but will also have the opportunity to be paid for officiating our Monday night Basketball program held at our South Plympton gym. Over time, students will then be able to seek other employment opportunities as officials in other competitions.

We will also be doing the same for our interested student Soccer Officials who are not part of our Year 10 PE course, and will be able to be reimbursed for their time and efforts on weekends. If students have any questions or queries about officiating do not hesitate to speak to or contact Mr Porter via email at dporter@emmauscc.s.edu.au.

The sports program at Emmaus continues to grow and we hope to be able to continue to offer sport and physical activity opportunities and pathways for enrolled students that keep them physically active and living a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
