Lego Masters in Junior School

On Tuesday 30 May, the South Plympton Junior School children had the chance to build a Lego creation, bring it to school to be judged by the Year 6 Leadership team and then displayed for the Junior School children to see.

This year was a blast! Everyone was so excited that some people decided to have a peek before the bell had rung!

The Junior School children had four competition categories:

  • Foundations: Favourite Place
  • Year 1/2: Farms

Year 6 Camp

In Week 3 this term, the Year 6s boarded the ferry to Kangaroo Island. They were divided into three groups, each led by the capable staff from Beyond The Classroom, and prepared to visit the sights of the island.

They were treated to some amazing natural wonders including Seal Bay, the very Remarkable Rocks and many other beautiful sights. The students were educated in the life of bees at 'Kangaroo Island Living Honey' bee farm. A highlight was Raptor Domain, where they got to meet some amazing birds, and the Fang-Tastic Reptile Show, where nearly everyone faced their fears and held a snake and lizard.

Another challenge was sandboarding the beautiful dunes of Little Sahara. The evenings were spent at the Kingscote Yacht Club eating dinner and enjoying a quiz night and camp concert.

We thank God for amazing weather and a great experience!

Here are some quotes from our students about their experience:

“The camp was fun. My bus driver was afraid of spiders. I had 8 pancakes for breakfast!”

“I really loved sandboarding because it was fun and different. I liked how all the teachers did it too!”

“I loved the food.”

‘The sandboarding made my heart go at 200 bpm.”

“I liked being away from school and home and being with my friends. I really enjoyed The Raptor Domain.”

“I liked the Ocean Safari and going down to the beach and skipping stones over the water.”

“A highlight was watching the cute seals at Seal bay.”

“Remarkable Rocks were amazing and I loved climbing all over them.”

End of Semester Awards

To be able to receive an award is an important achievement and needs to be acknowledged as such. It is also important to ensure that they are well deserved and the specified criteria is clearly met. A part of developing resilience and a healthy attitude towards achievement means ensuring that we have rigour around achieving awards. Not every child will receive an award during their schooling. That is to be expected and it is OK.

As a staff, we have reviewed our awards, and decided that at the end of Semester One we will award two Citizenship Awards for each class. This certificate is awarded in demonstrating a servant heart and being a positive role model during the semester.

At the end of the year, there are additional awards for consistent improvement in work effort and merit certificates for effort and diligence throughout the year. Year 6 students have additional awards which are recognised at their Year 6 graduation.

End of Semester One Awards are recognised at our Week 10 Assembly. Junior School Assemblies are held in EPAC on a Monday at 12:50pm. Parents are always welcome. If your child is receiving a Citizenship Award you will receive a special invitation to that assembly.

French News

In an exciting new experience, some of our students had the unique opportunity to interact with Caroline, a French student currently visiting Australia. The meet-and-greet sessions held with several classes proved to be a valuable cultural exchange experience for both Caroline and the students.

As part of her visit to Adelaide, she graciously accepted an invitation to Emmaus (South Plympton Campus), where she engaged with students from various age groups, including Year 1/2s, Year 7s and 8s, and Year 11s.

During her time at Emmaus, Caroline enthusiastically fielded questions from the students, who were eager to learn more about French culture and language. The students took the opportunity to inquire about various aspects of daily life in France, ranging from popular traditions to typical food and hobbies.

The interaction between the students and Caroline proved to be an enlightening experience, as they discovered the similarities and differences between their everyday activities in Australia and Caroline's life in France. The exchange of information sparked a lively discussion among the students, creating an atmosphere of excitement and curiosity.
