The Board Report
June 2023
Hello St Marys College Community,
Thanks for your patience in waiting to hear from the Board. Things have gotten away from me of late. I am pleased to report that the most recent Board Meetings have been filled with lively discussion as we each develop our relationship with Kerry. This year is one of dynamic leadership change and the new team is handling the challenges well. I for one am really enjoying the change and am excited about the future here at St Marys. Speaking to that future, now is the time of year that the Grade 11 cohort put forward their nominations to represent the student body as their Leaders for 2024. I believe the nominees for College Captains have been interviewed and are moving on to the all-school speech phase of the process. As the mum of a Grade 11 student, I have to say that this Grade does hold a special place in my heart and I am sure that whoever is chosen will be a wonderful representative of the school in our greater community, but more importantly, be a great role model for the rest of the College.
Unfortunately, there were some uncomfortable topics discussed at our most recent meeting. Some of our members raised concerns about the recent vandalism in the toilets. Honestly, not something that I thought would be a problem at St Mary’s with both the boys’ and girls’ facilities affected.
On a brighter note, congratulations to Heavey on their recent Athletics Carnival win. It’s always great to see an underdog get up for an unexpected but well-earned victory. What an achievement after 19 years. All students and staff of Heavey should be rightfully proud.
Yours in service on behalf of the Board,
Tammy van der Reijden
