Year 5 & 6 Victorian Students Pariamentary Program.

On Tuesday the 6th of June, 8 students in years 5 and 6 represented Dohertys Creek P-9 College in the Victorian Students’ Parliamentary Program. They took the train into the city to Parliament House to debate just as our MPs do. Students learned about Australia’s constitution and systems of government by participating in a parliamentary style debate. The students debated a topic that is currently affecting Australian’s Democracy. Students who were selected to attend were chosen based on an essay they wrote exploring the question; “Should the age of criminal responsibility be increased from 10 years of age?” Congratulations to Aadya, Dhruv, Mikayla, Nikshita, Pratham, Jiya, Venkatesh, and Cindy. All students did intensive research and thought deeply about the topic. It was wonderful to see them all share their thoughts and ideas so clearly to a large group of their peers from schools throughout Victoria.
