Visit from the North Melbourne AFL Members

The Year 5 students excitedly waited for three members of the North Melbourne AFL team to arrive. As Jy, Flynn and Griffin opened the office door, our hearts leaped with excitement. That day, they came to Dohertys Creek College on the 30th of May for a Q&A with grades 5D and 5F.

Jy Simpkin is a midfielder and has been a co-captain prior to the 2023 season. Griffin Logue is a key defender and was drafted as pick No. 8 in the 2016 AFL draft. He then went on to play 64 games after his debut in 2017. Flynn Perez is a medium defender and made his debut in the 2020 season, playing the last three games of the campaign.

Around 1:10, the players arrived and met two students waiting for them to take them to the 5F classroom, where 5F and 5D were between being patient and impatient. As they arrived, the students gasped in awe after seeing them. The players gave a brief introduction about themselves, and then it was time for the reason they were here - the Q&A.

The players were very respectful and open to answer the questions being asked. Some questions were -

"How many days do you train every week?", to which they responded with 5.

"What motivates you to play AFL?", which they responded to with their family and friends, and because they were good at footy.

"How do you deal with negative comments?", which they responded with ignoring them completely and if they're not their friends or family, they don't really matter.

All the Year 5's were extremely excited to see the North Melbourne players, and it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to meet true AFL players in person.
