Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ

This Sunday, the Feast of Corpus Christi (Body and Blood of Christ), is a Eucharistic solemnity, or better, the solemn commemoration of the institution of that sacrament. This feast day is the way in which the Church officially gives homage and gratitude to Christ for the institution of the Holy Eucharist, the Church's greatest treasure.

While on Holy Thursday we commemorate the anniversary of the institution of the Eucharist, the joy of this event is diminished by the commemoration of the Lord's passion which immediately follows.

Therefore, the Feast of Corpus Christi is the Church's opportunity to truly celebrate with great joy the wondrous gift of the Holy Eucharist, proclaiming to all the world the belief that Jesus is truly present in the bread and wine - truly his Body and Blood given for us!

A wonderful  tradition that developed around the Feast of Corpus Christi  is the Eucharistic procession. "Very early (in the fourteenth century) the custom developed of carrying the Blessed Sacrament in a splendid procession through the town after the Mass on Corpus Christi Day. This was encouraged by the popes. The Council of Trent (1545-1563) solemnly approved and recommended the procession on Corpus Christi as a public profession of the Catholic faith in the real presence of Christ in the Holy Sacrament." Catholic Culture.

This Sunday, June 11, the seminarians of Melbourne's Corpus Christi seminary in Carlton, will be celebrating a solemn Mass at 3pm followed by a Eucharistic procession around the streets of Carlton. The Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, corner of Rathdowne and Pelham Streets. All are welcome!

Vinnies Winter Appeal

Last year, we were overwhelmed by the support the OLSC community gave to our Vinnies Winter Appeal efforts. The donations to this appeal help many families and individuals throughout our local community.

This year we will be participating in this appeal again. During Weeks 7-9, we ask you to bring donations of canned & non-perishable food, toiletries and (new) warm winter gloves, beanies and scarves. The last collection will be on Tuesday of Week 9. Thank you for your cooperation and generosity.

School Masses

Last Friday, we will be celebrated a school Mass. The theme of this Mass was 'God is Love'. It was wonderful to gather with the students from Prep to Year 4. Our celebration was made even more special by the singing of the choir throughout Mass and a liturgical movement by students from Year 3/4 at the end of Mass. Thank you Tina D. and Marilyn for their continued guidance of the choir and to Rita, Imogen and Leeza for working with the Year 3/4 students.

Thank you to all parents, guardians and families who joined us for this celebration.

Here are the dates and times of remaining Masses for 2023:
