Tournament of the Minds

Learning Enrichment is thrilled to announce that Good News Lutheran College will be participating in Tournament of the Minds again in 2023!

Tournament of the Minds (TOM) is a problem-solving program for multi-aged teams of students who work together to solve a demanding, open-ended Long-Term Challenge. The team must also participate in an unseen Spontaneous Challenge on Tournament Day. The program has Primary (Year 4-6) and Secondary divisions (Year 7-10). If you wish to be considered for a place, please carefully read the following expectations:

  • Students must commit to meeting up to 4 times a week with their team
  • Students must be willing to work collaboratively with all peers
  • Students must listen respectfully and honour perspectives different from their own
  • Students must be willing to work through any disagreements with team members efficiently
  • Parents must not support team members with any solutions towards their long term challenge

Students and families must be available on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th August for the regional final if they choose to participate and arrange their own transport.

If you wish to go ahead with sharing an expression of interest please email Miss Cairns at cairnse@goodnews.vic.edu.au

Please provide responses to the following questions:

1. Why are you passionate about competing in Tournament of the Minds?

2. How would you manage a disagreement with a team member?

3. Do you commit to meeting with your team several times per week until August?

4. Are you available to attend the regional tournament on the 19th and 20th of August to support your team members?
