Inside the Classroom

Campus

We have welcomed a few new students to the Campus this term as well as some new staff. Our new students are settling in well into Class 18, 20 and 21. Mrs Rutten and Mrs Lloyd have started teaching in our new Class 20, with Mrs Fischer and Ms Auston taking the class from next week. We are looking forward to welcoming more new students throughout the term. We are making the most of the winter sun and enjoying being active outdoors. Ezyrollers have been a real crowd favourite.

Classes are working really hard inside the classroom as well with a range of activities to support learning including mapping in Geography and chemical reactions in Science.

Maths and music have also been a feature of our busy term.

Stage 5 are working with Mr Gell in Design and Technology; re-using wooden pallets to create projects – stay tuned for the final result.

As always, cooking has been a highlight - so far we have made potato bake and pizza scrolls. We have harvested the leeks planted in Term 2 and will be cooking with them in the future.

Primary

Primary students have enjoyed returning to school for Term 3. We have welcomed some new students and have had a few students change classes to start this semester. Everyone has settled into their class routines. The weather over these first few weeks has allowed students to enjoy the outdoors both at school and on class outings.

Class 6 have been using different sensory activities and enjoying the outdoors.

Some of the clever students from Class 11 have been using different materials for construction.

Class 5 are using technology to support their learning in the classroom and have also been exploring new areas of the school playground and local parks.

Class 12 have been interested in learning about shadows and focusing on independent living skills.

Stage 4

This Term, Class 16 has taken their love for drawing and creating artworks to new heights by exploring the fusion of art and mindfulness. By blending their artistic process with mindfulness techniques, our students are developing a fresh and amazing way to create stunning art. They have applied themselves to the process with enthusiasm. It's been inspiring to watch them happily adapt their pieces, tweaking their drawings, and using the cool new techniques we've been learning to add that special touch to their unique art.

Class 14 and 15 visited the library this week for their outing. After exploring the different areas, Julie, the librarian, spoke to students about how to go about getting a free library card. Students were excited about the range of items able to be borrowed from books, audiobooks, puzzles and board games.

Class 15 unleashed their inner creativity this week in both their mandatory Technology lesson with Mrs. Callaway and their exploration of Aboriginal rock art with Mrs. Sharpe. They fearlessly experimented with various techniques, and the results they achieved were simply fantastic!

Stage 5

Class 22 have started reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this term, and have been exploring all things chocolate. This week we made our very own chocolate bar from cacao nibs and cacao butter. We were so surprised at how easy it was!

Our Design and Tech students have been busy making caddies. They have been nailing, sanding and wood burning. They are looking great so far.

Ryan and Indi were called in for a shift at Mini Woollies this week to work on the registers. After 30 seconds of training they showed what fantastic store attendants they are. They greeted our customers, checked out their items and restocked the shelves all with smiles on their faces. It was wonderful to see how quickly they learned these skills.

Stage 5 have enjoyed cooking again this term with Mr Low’s Recipe of the Week. Next week we will be cooking a delicious Thai Red Curry.

Stage 6

Students in class 3 have been working with Ms Tenielle to explore food with food play and this week used technology to assist in cooking French toast!

Our 4 school leaders, Daisy, Jonah, Charlie and Erjan attended the Orange Young Leaders of the Central West Summit.  Now in its second year, the event gives students leadership teams the opportunity to connect and collaborate on issues that matter to them. It was a great day for these future leaders to share ideas, explore solutions and be inspired to be the best young leaders they can be!

I was very proud to witness our students high level of engagement, questioning the guest speakers and at the end of the event giving a speech to thank the organisers.
