Who are Waa and Bunjil?
Harvey (PW) “Bunjil and Waa are special. One is the creator and one is the protector. I think I saw Waa in a tree near the grade 5 classes. The First Nations people believe Bunjil made the world. We used our hands cut out from paper to make feathers.
Ned PCB “Bunjil is the creator. Some special people called the First Nations people believe in Bunjil and Waa. We made a poster. We traced our hand and cut it out and then we drew on them with pastels to make colours.
How we calm down
We stopped by 1F for their SEL lesson. Using their Resilience Project Journals, they thought about ways they can calm down when feeling stressed, anxious, angry or frustrated. Here are some of their responses:
Iggy: I can find someone else to play with.
Lucy: I will run a few laps around the red track to get me out of the mood.
Willow: I will go and have a drink of water.
Andy: I will pat my dog to calm down.
Ashton: I can play some soccer.
Mia: I can put some songs on.
Sia: I will take a deep breath and read a book under a tree.
Louisa: I will tell someone my feelings.
Ray: Sitting down and drinking some water.
Macy : Sitting on the deck and doing some meditation.
Sophie: Play by myself for a bit.
Kengo: I like to clean and tidy the room.
Charlotte: When I am mad drawing can make me happy.

What we did in STEAM this week
Students conducted an experiment which used a tuning fork and a bowl of coloured water. They tapped the tuning fork to make a sound and then by placing the tuning fork in the water they were able to visualise the sound wave by watching the water move.
Kian: We learnt that sound is like a wave. If you tap the tuning fork with a stick and then put it in the water and the water would move.
Lily: We hit the side of the table with the tuning fork, and the tuning fork would make a sound. I liked the activity because we got a bit messy because the water splashed.
