Respectful Relationships

At Kurunjang Secondary College we are a lead school in delivering a whole school approach to Respectful Relationships. Schools are a workplace, a community hub and place of learning and everyone involved in our school community deserves to be respected, valued and treated equally.

A whole school approach allows us to review our existing procedures and ensure that respectful relationships are promoted and modelled for the young people learning with us. Over the past year, we have specifically looked at our polices, procedures and existing practices to ensure student management, events, programs and other school operations are underpinned by respect and equality.

We aim to ensure Kurunjang Secondary College is a place where all staff can feel respected, safe and valued with equal opportunities available, a safe place for young people where they can learn about gender equality and respectful relationships and we promote gender equality and respectful relationships in the wider community.

Research into family violence indicates that gender inequality is a key driver and we can combat this via education. Respectful relationships in schools has been implemented as a primary prevention approach to combat family violence. As partners in your child’s learning we aim to have you consulted, kept up to date with the initiative here at school and we encourage further conversation with your children at home.

Our next steps as a College is making a Statement of Commitment which has sought consultation from our students, from our staff, from partnership agencies who work with us as well as our families. You will find below, our proposed Statement of Commitment for Respectful Relationships at Kurunjang Secondary College. All feedback is welcome directly to myself via compass email, no later than Friday 7th July 2023. All feedback will be considered and our final document displayed on our college website from next term. Thank you for your assistance with this.
