Magis report

Results from the 2020 Creative/Edge Opti-MINDS WA Competition have come through, and our Year 8 team has finished third in the State in the Language-Literature division, just behind Chisholm and Iona colleges. Congratulations to the team of Gemma Bailey, Meg Derbyshire, Meg Cleary, Kate Shirley and Asha Paton on a splendid performance. Congratulations also to our Year 7 Language-Literature teams which also represented the College admirably.
John XXIII teams for the Ethics Olympiad in November and the International Debating championships in October are now being finalised. Because of COVID-19 these events will both be completed using zoom technology. A flyer containing brief descriptions of both events is attached.
The final event in the Magis House Championship for 2020, the John XXIII Chess Championship has now been completed and the results are attached. The House Academic Challenge Shield and individual awards for the series of five events which included over 1000 entries was presented at Secondary Assembly last week, but the overall Magis House Championship also includes Public Speaking, Chess and Creative Writing. The House overall award will be presented at the Magis Awards Breakfast in week three of next term, Wednesday 28 October.
Our Year 7 Magis option students are currently completing their prepared and impromptu debates for assessment, and continue to work on their Personal Projects. The Personal Project Exhibition for Semester 2 will be opened on Thursday 12 November.
