The Brief, The Brand, The Build

By Margot Worthy

On the 27th of August The Brief, The Brand, The Build class went on a virtual excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria. We learnt lots about design and got to participate in some activities as well. We looked at multiple different designs including sustainable designs, designs from centuries ago, functional designs, confusing designs and much more. One of my favourite activities was when we got to create our own weird design ideas. We first picked an animal and then had to come up with a product that included the animal. I chose a monkey so I came up with a shelf which the monkey is hanging from and a lamp where the monkey is wrapped around. I enjoyed this activity because we had just looked at some interesting designs where animals were incorporated with chairs and I thought it was pretty cool and wanted to give it a go. Overall it was great to hear from the NGV tour guides, Theresa Powles and Tabitha Davies, because they were not only passionate about the designs but they also presented in a way that kept me interested. It was a great excursion and I hope we do more throughout the semester.
